I'm assuming it's a play on the okada baggy tights situation, where his confidence has become eroded to the point where he's even doubting the whole full gear thing. Eventually he'll have a match where the chaps come off and the crowd lose their shit.

The King Of Swing
They really missed the boat on Jamie Hayter as well, though she might have gone the same way as Bea with the way things are I guess. Felt to me like the division was going to be Omega's vanity project where he could book all of his mates but the pandemic completely fucked everything up, leaving only Shida. TJPW also had nowhere near the roster depth (they actually seem to be losing wrestlers now) to continue sending their top names to the US.

They brought in Nicole Savoy for the tag tournament, Savoy was in great shape and looked really good, much better than in her Mae Young/NXT appearances, and was one of the few stand outs. They signed Tay Conti. They've let a bunch of good talent go to Impact instead of snapping them up. I honestly don't see why they let Kimber Lee, Jordynne Grace, fuck even Tenille Dashwood, go that way without picking them up. They had Mercedes Martinez come out as the Joker in the Casino Battle Royale at last year's All Out, to a good pop, but let her go to NXT. There's a lot better than what they've got, but it feels like they're holding their breath for the Japanese lasses coming back. Wasn't Jordynne signed to a long term contract before AEW became a thing? Dashwood isn't really that big of a miss. Maybe Mercedes got offered a big money deal for 5 yrs and AEW couldn't match the offer The one that All Elite missed out on was Deonna Purrazzo. She would have been great.

Just Some Guy
Really great show this week. Page & Kazarian match of the night for me. Will Hobbs getting a nickname is a nice touch. He's still eating the pin next week imo. On the subject of nicknames, Murderhawk Monster. The word monster is redundant to me. The Murderhawk sounds better. CavemanLynn
I really like it when AEW do a hot open like this week, with an act already in the ring or mid entrance. It feels like you've mistimed your preshow piss or beer run and are running back to your seat. It's a subtle bit of variety that helps break up the show - when you've got half a dozen matches on a show, it's really important to switch up the presentation a couple of times. AEW do this really well. I refuse to believe either of the Bucks walk around with 5 grand in their pocket. Especially notes so crisp they look like Kendall mint cake. Matt still comes off as affected and try hard, but if it just makes me hate him more, I guess that's working. Not sure what Nick's going for, but he looks pretty bored most of the time. Top marks to FTR, shit-grinning at other heeling. Also top marks for getting the fuck out of dodge when Luchasaurus tagged in. A really fun opener, with some fantastic pinning reversals - only just got off a run of watching Barry Windham reverse powerslams with small packages on YouTube, so it was cool watching Jungle Jack bring it back from the old school. Solid cutoff and tag work from Dax and Cash, Luchasaurus doing his bit, Perry looking smooth and fiery, and a shenanigans flash finish. Good stuff all round. I've got lots of time for a vet like Kaz, so him vs Page was always going to get a double thumbs up from me. The Okada trunks reveal is DEFINITELY what they're going for. It's not the whole angle, but a great bit of seasoning that adds even more depth to the eventual moment. There's even the smarky ideas around trunks being the main event look, so going to tights looks like Page consciously demoting himself. When I spotted Page looking over to the commentary desk, I just knew Kenny was leaving before the end, and after a great transition getting more and more dismissive of Hangman as the commentary team pressed him, he bloody did, the shit bag. Like someone said elsewhere, sometimes an angle needs to go where you think it's going to go. Poor beautiful Hangman. Also, I loved the finish sequence of this match, just a smooth series of counters to moves hit or teased early on. 101. Kingston and Co. masterminding a great little angle. If there's no big feuds for them at the moment, and viewers are still unconvinced at the odd couple grouping, it makes perfect sense to take the time to build the team dynamic from inside. Eddie's so engaging on the mic, entertaining but always with that psycho streak bubbling below the surface. Speaking of team building, it does feel like AEW is building to something bigger with this. With the Bucks and Omega seemingly on the verging of splintering into their own thing, Kingston's crew, Inner Circle, Tazz and Roberts joining forces, Tully's Horsemen, and then MJF talking about a faction, there's a lot going on. It might be a short term angle, or a one off gimmick match on the horizon or some ludicrous Freebird team title gimmick, but it all adds to the world of the roster. I don't know what happened in the women's match. Early on, Ivelisse went for a second slap when Rosa was still reacting to the first, and after that, timing was completely off. They were clearly on completely different pages. I think Rosa came off better in that I didn't see anything she might've been doing to derail things, but something had pissed someone off. The fact they continued working OK suggests what we got was still what intended, so if there was any shooting, it was either just a bit of snugness, or one wasn't rising to the other. Maybe working prerecorded LU meant Ivelisse has picked up the habit of switching off when things go wrong, or robotically going through the match plan regardless of her opponent's pacing. Bad form. Womens division has suffered from there not being a clear all rounder to build the division around. Baker is great in skits, but pretty average in ring. Shida is OK in ring but still hasn't overcome the language barrier. Rose is a solid monster but is currently hamstrung by an unnecessary and anachronistic manager. Ford is on the rise but not there yet. Honestly, it's tempting to make Rosa double champ. Fire promo from Mox because of course it was. Great bit of rub for big man Will, and a good little TV match cued up nicely. The shine is off the Roberts connection. It's pretty clear that, in a room with a camera, a couple of takes and no one else there to take his 'spotlight', Jake is gold. But he just can't be trusted to hold things together live in ring. Archer's been doing his homework though. If the purpose of pairing him with Jake was to tighten up his mic work, then mission accomplished. A killer world champion indeed. Get him in orange and black and on Team Taz. It should be clunky, but I really like "We Build Assassins." Jericho chugging along doing his thing. I hope Marq Quen never ditches the coat tails ring gear, it's a great unique look. Loved Hager and Y2J's version of Too Sweet with the clinking bubbly. Miro makes everything work and everything better. Such easy charisma, I'm sold on him and Kip being mates. What a unit. What's Bulgarian for "Jack and tan"? OC for the TNT confirmed moments before the Parking Lot Fight? Get in my veins. When the hook for a title match is "how the fuck is this going to turn out!?", I'm in. I love Trent. It's official. Ridiculous, ripped, deadpan, spaghetti legged Trent. The whole match was a great fun stunt show. Cars lined up for their own mini spots like a video game arena, genuine reactions, hardway blood. Santana cos playing as Puerto Rican Great Muta, stalking with a lead pipe. Trent getting seesawed into the truck door. Chuck keeping his top on. Orange Cassidy waking up from a nap. The big stunt finish and then the bird-flipping hero exit. Never before have wrestlers looked so cool going home with their mum.  Edited September 19, 2020 by CavemanLynn
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted September 19, 2020 Awards Moderator Share Posted September 19, 2020 Some really enjoyable bits on that show. Moxley's promo was my favourite segment of his in ages, fully sold me on the six man tag next week which I'm now properly looking forward to. Kenny Omega feels like he's finally hitting some sort of groove. Just the right level of obnoxious on commentary, and how dare he just get up and leave? Get him Hangman! Main event was great. Felt like something different and became special for it. Some brutal moves in there, but all spaced out enough that each one meant something. And a great, happy ending. What's not to like? Â Question - they're plugging the anniversary show for October 14th. ITV Hub says this week's was episode 50. Are they not a week or two out, or are ITV counting episodes that weren't Dynamite as Dynamite?

WyattSheepMask
There were a couple of weeks last Christmas when there wasn’t any Dynamite wasn’t there? So either they’re just pushing the 52nd episode as the anniversary or there’s been a miscount somewhere, not that it really matters Edited September 19, 2020 by WyattSheepMask
NavigatorFan
Watched the Parking Lot Fight again this morning, found it even more enjoyable second time round. I cannot think how many years it has been since I've rewatched a match within a week!

Paid Members DEF Posted September 20, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted September 20, 2020 Watched the parking lot brawl again with my wife earlier. If you had told me even 3 weeks ago that I'd rewatch a main event with the Chucky T & Trent I'd have thought you were a mad man let alone actively showing it to someone. An absolute triumph.
