Danny Franchetti’s Jazzbox Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 (edited) Nah I reckon it’s not much to expect of an autobiography to get the factual names/dates of things right. Sets my ocd off when it happens. I remember reading Daniel Bryan’s yes book and there were a few bits around 2013-14 where the name of a show was wrong or something similar. Although that could be more to do with CTE, but I was disappointed considering it was only released in 2015. I get that they wrestle so many matches so they do probably blur together but still if you’re putting it to paper, wouldn’t hurt to double check it. Surely there are proof readers that could do a quick check of these things before release, otherwise we get another business secrets of the pharaohs. Paid Members Chris B Posted February 7, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 7, 2025 Bryan's was ghost-written, to be fair. It's possible the ghost-writer had CTE, though. The way they usually work is someone sits down with the wrestler and goes through their stories. Then they write it up and it does go some proof-readers, etc. But fact-checking is slow, laborious, and expensive. And nobody wants to do it. And most people don't notice that show titles were wrong. These aren't labours of love - and by the time of Jericho's third or fourth book, they won't be labours of love like the first one either. Quote
Paid Members DCW Posted February 7, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 7, 2025 Was it in the 3rd book that Jericho is banging on incessantly about drinking vodka? he had some 'hilarious' nickname for it that I've purged from my mind. Was like a teenager boasting about necking their first bottle of cider. Quote

Did you know Jericho thinks London is the worlds oldest city? Because he does, the thick cunt. Quote
Chili Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 Just going to repost that the funniest thing I've ever seen related to Chris Jericho was a tweet saying the fifth labour of Jericho in that MJF story should have been Chris reading out his wife's twitter posts. Still does me in thinking about it. Quote

That's the modern layman's understanding of proofreading, i.e. running something through Word's spellchecker for half an hour (at most) to spot any obvious typos then calling it a day. It originally meant checking everything in the proofs of a book before it went to print so fact-checking could and can very much be part of that process. In the specific case of Vengeance 2001 I'd cut Jericho some slack though. Most years around that time, the December PPV was always Armageddon. For some reason (possibly 9/11?) there was no Armageddon in 2001 so they did Vengeance instead... then did another PPV called Vengeance as soon as July 2002. Even the font used for the errant 2001 edition's logo looked closer to the regular Armageddon one. Quote

It was definitely because of 9/11 the name was changed, maybe in Power Slam I read it but I've certainly heard about that being the reason for the name change as Armageddon was deemed offensive and Vengeance was then the total opposite meaning assuming that had something to do with why they choose that name, matching the feeling of the nation around that time seeking Vengeance. Paid Members BomberPat Posted February 8, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 8, 2025 Pretty much no publishers have fact-checkers any more, certainly not for memoirs. At best you'll have someone check to make sure nothing's libelous. Between faulty memories, ghost writers, and editors, plenty of ways for simple facts to end up wrong. Quote

That whole book was just him admitting being an alcoholic. I think one story was him bascially getting the shakes on a plane until they got out of Arabic airspace and he could finally have some vodka. Quote
CTXRussomark Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 Can't deny that's impressive for 55, but it's such a strange looking physique. Looks like a B-movie horror monster, preparing to suck the life out of the next up-and-comer he comes across. Quote
Snitsky's back acne Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 Didnt he have surgery on his pecs decades ago? Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted November 9, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 9, 2025 Yeah it's from surgery for a muscle tear on his chest. Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted November 9, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 9, 2025 It's undoubtedly impressive, but he does look like he's been shot with a cannon. Quote
