Paid Members chokeout Posted July 13 Paid Members Posted July 13 (edited) Sam Neill's Instagram has just announced hes died obligatory 'everyone should watch Event Horizon' post. but for those who have never watched it, seek out Reilly, Ace of Spies an early 80s tv series, where he plays Sidney Reilly, an obvious real life inspiration for James Bond. Jurassic Park was obviously the big one for me, but he was fantastic in Hunt For The Wilderpeople, and a weird little film called Dean Spanley which I loved and occasionally posted about on Twitter, resulting in Sam Neill following my account. cobra_gordo Posted July 13 Posted July 13 What absolutely tragic news to wake up to. Obviously amazing in Event Horizon but 8 year old, dinosaur obsessed me was captivated by him in Jurassic Park. I've prattled on before about how much I love that film and he was a big part of that as a kid, I always thought he was effortlessly cool whilst Goldbloom's Ian Malcolm seemed like a tryhard. I've already watched it half a dozen times this year, it's going on again this morning. Quote

SaitoRyo Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Damn. He had only recently revealed he was cancer-free after being diagnosed with stage-three blood cancer a few years ago. A damn good actor was Sam Neil. Jurassic Park is the first performance of his that springs to mind, but I think his best outing was probably in John Carpenter's In The Mouth of Madness. Must re-watch that at some stage. He was ace in the bonkers Possession, too. RIP. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted July 13 Posted July 13 There aren't too many I've been genuinely starstruck when meeting at cons over the years but I was so nervous meeting Sam. Jurassic Park was on repeat as a kid and I still absolutely adore it to this day. Much like many others it was simply an introduction to him as an actor and he had some great other roles that have already been mentioned. But the fact I got to meet him and talk about the impact his work had on me as a kid was so important to me - much like when I met Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox. These people are genuine superstars to me and part of my life. I grew up with them. Sam was humble and kind and took the time to talk to everyone properly and I didn't hear a single bad word about him.. trust me you hear a lot at cons. But him? Professional, courteous and so talented. Outside of that he was so brave in his personal life especially in recent years and things were just starting to look brighter again. So this is quite the shock for everyone I imagine. A big loss for many but what a legacy to leave. Quote
