Integral to the series in his own way. The episode where Rodney is on the phone to his married lover and tells Del he's talking to Mickey is one of my favourite moments of the series (mainly for Del's over the top reaction). 

As the series progressed, he was always in the background and the actor clearly enjoyed himself in the role.

RIP Patrick Murray.

Sad to hear this, I always hated Keeping Up Appearances, but I have fond memories of how much my dad enjoyed it when I was a kid. Also Hetty Wainthrop Investigates was one show we all sat down as a family (all 6 of us) and watched together, weirdly, so Patricia Routledge has a fond place in my heart. 

Also, going peacefully in your sleep at 96 sounds like possibly the best way to go, so that's a nice thing.

Keeping Up Appearances was shit, but not because of her. She was fucking great in it. Everything else was bollocks.

Absolutely brilliant as the bucket woman. I'd also recommend her superb series of monologues from Victoria Wood as seen on TV as 'Kitty'

My gran loved Keeping Up Appearances, and my mum was a big fan of Hetty Wainthrop Investigates as well as of Victoria Wood, whose stuff Dame Patricia would appear in and those Alan Bennett monologues she sometimes appeared in. . This has hit me particularly hard right now.

I've never seen any of these and I've just watched three of them back to back laughing my arse off. As others have said, incredible actress and easily the best thing about Keeping Up Appearances. She had the best timing and facial expressions. I know she did one-woman shows with monologues but going off those clips she'd have been a fantastic standup comedian.

That’s sad news. But a good innings and was still working up until last year.

She was great in Keeping Up Appearances. As others have said, the best thing about the show. I have fond memories of watching it with my mum.

Hetty Wainthropp Investigates was great too. She was the draw for me. I wanted to watch it after seeing her in Keeping Up Appearances. 7 year old me would be excited on a Friday evening to watch the newest episode. My mate still watches it as his comfort show.
