If you've watched even a couple of things from Japanese cinema from the 50s to the 70s, you've seen Nakadai Tatsuya being extremely good. A great actor.

Mifune was great for frenetic energy, and Nakadai was his solemn, dignified counterpart.

Harakiri and Samurai Rebellion are amongst some of my favourite of his works. And, of course, he's immense in Seven Samurai.

Folk/Americana singer-songwriter legend Todd Snider at 59. 

A complicated character who strugled with his demons by all accounts, but Snider was a rare talent. A brilliant writer who had no musical background or experience when he decided to become a folksinger after seeing Jerry Jeff Walker perform live. He later became a friend and contemporary of Walker's, as well as a close friend of John Prine (who signed Snider to his Oh Boy record label). It's easy to see why they gravitated towards him. He was that good.

This is a strange one, as Snider was involved in a situation a couple of weeks back where he claimed he was assaulted, was refused treatment at a hospital and was later arrested (all at the start of a quickly cancelled tour to promote his latest record). Reports are he died after suffering from an undiagnosed case of walking pneumonia.
