Danny Thompson, aged 86 - brilliant acoustic bassist, mostly known to me through his work with Richard Thompson and John Martyn, but also had a bunch of solo albums, and played with Pentangle.

Also played with a ton of other people - Kate Bush, Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Bert Jansch, Cliff Richard, Skin, T-Rex, Rod Stewart, Peter Gabriel, Marianne Faithfull, and so on and so on, and played on the theme tune to Thunderbirds.

Pretty sure Ming was his nickname, not how you pronounced his name.

You say the name Menzies as Mingis, so Ming is a contraction of his name Hanni.

Kaleb Horton, a great writer and a firm favourite of mine, suddenly passed away after suffering a seizure. He was only 37. 

He was witty and informative and had impeccable taste. Hell of a photographer, too. In another era, he would have been a prolific and well-paid magazine writer or an author of well-regarded books both fiction and non. As it is, he did pretty much all of his work for online outlets and seemed to be struggling to get gigs. A sad state of affairs for somebody so talented. 

Here's a selection of his stuff, but I would implore anyone who likes this sort of thing to seek more of it out.

Any cuesport fans will remember his world championship wins in 9 & 10 ball pool and playing in the Mosconi Cup.

Played a bit of snooker too.

Very sad this one, struggled with cancer last few years so he's had it rough the poor guy, but he's remained so positive throughout so I hope he didn't suffer too much.

OFAH is my favourite ever show, and I have attended a few of the conventions. Patrick used to be a regular up until the last couple years when his health prevented him being able to do so, something he was so gutted about.

He absolutely loved the conventions and meeting up with the cast, he was the joker and life and soul of it most of the time. Him and John Challis (Boycie) were such big parts of the convention that it's really sad now without them there and it's not the same. They give a shout out to John every year and its always really emotional how much he meant to the convention, something they'll now do for Patrick too.

A really good recurring character in OFAH too and had some very funny moments, my favourite being him and Jevons faces in the nightclub when Rodney pulled Cassandra.

RIP Patrick, hopefully you're up there now having a drink with John and trying to sell some double glazing!

Mickey was a great character and bounced off the others really well. As the show got older he seemed to mature somewhat and Patrick Murray grew with it too
