Without going all Lance Storm, my grandad fucking hated Dickie Bird. Almost as much as he hated Geoff Boycott. When we'd get forced to watch the cricket as kids half the time would be spent with him chunterring about those two. Fond memories.

My dad hated almost everyone on planet earth, but not Dickie Bird. He used to call Shane Warne “Wayne Sleep”, always in a very angry way, like he was disgusted at having to say his little insult out loud.

My dad hates Adele and called her a sentimental bitch one Christmas Day. Out of nowhere too. This was the start of his constant ranting about her.

Don't know if it's true but I heard that there's a statue of Dickie Bird somewhere (Leeds?) posed with his finger out in dismissal, and apparently every Sunday morning the city cleaners have to turn up and remove the ladies underware from his finger.

Anyway, RIP to Dickie.

My Dad hates the character of Sabrina the Teenage Witch (or possibly just Melissa Joan Hart), for reasons we've never quite been able to ascertain.

Every time it came on when I was a kid he'd launch into the same old diatribe "ah not this shite again, the bitch who thinks she's a witch" and storm out of the room in a huff.

Dickie Bird, much like Willie Thorne and Lester Piggott is one of those people that for a very long time growing up if I heard his name I thought he wasn't actually real and was some fictional character because I'd never actually seen them, just heard the name and it sounded too amusing to be genuine and didn't have the joy of Google at the time.
