The Sting is one of my very favourite films. I have a memory of being very young and not wanting to watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid because I thought it would be a boring dusty western and then really loving it.

He's one of those few people who when you sit down and think of the films that you've enjoyed them in or that they've made, you realise you forgot or left out about a dozen. At least.

Impossible really to sum up the influence he's had on cinema and popular culture even before you list the many great films and performances. He was always good-to-great, even if the film wasn't (and there were few of those, he generally chose smartly) and he had chemistry with everyone. One of the most obvious greats of all time.

I used to get the Sundance Kid and the Milkybar Kid mixed up when I was younger.

Weirdly this made me think of one of my favourite Redford performances where he didn't have anyone on screen with him.

A really sad day losing Robert Redford. Just oozed cool, charisma and handsomeness. Yet he was always good to go with it. Like Dev mentions, when do you remember watching Redford in anything and not having a good time? Impossible. Sneakers, Indecent Proposal, The Horse Whisperer, Three Days of the Condor, Spy Game - you don't even need to list any of his most well known and appreciated roles to come up with a list that most people would kill to have as the highlights of their career. 

I mentioned earlier to someone when I first heard about it that he was part of a very exclusive list of "Beyond cool, there is McQueen, Newman, Eastwood & Redford level cool."

Rest in Peace to a true giant.

It is and they were! Shagging in Barefoot, The Chase and The Electric Horseman, to name but three. Honestly, I've been thinking about Redford a lot since the news broke and he really was just the absolute best in so many ways. They really don't make 'em like that anymore.
