Conjuto music legend Flaco Jimenez at age 86.

He was a solo performer, as well as a member of The Texas Tornadoes, and collaborated with a lot of great country music stars like Dwight Yoakam, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and The Mavericks.

What a tune. Love it.

Sad news about Allan Ahlberg. Great memories of the books. Remember the Happy Families series from school. When we had our first daughter in 2005, they were one of the first books I bought for her library. I got the full set from The Book People (remember them? We used to have a woman come into the office and take orders.) even before she was born. When we made the spare room into a nursery, it had those and a Roald Dahl boxset on the shelves for a newborn!

She loved EPPP and Peepo too. EPPP is a special one because I rememeber reading that to my little brothers and cousins too. And the postman one with the little letters. Absolutely timeless.

Film director Jonathan Kaplan passed away on August 1st, aged 77. 

Probably most famous for directing The Accused, which earned Jodie Foster an Oscar for Best Actress. He had a long and varied career, from low-budget exploitation stuff like Truck Turner in the seventies to the 90s feminist western Bad Girls and beyond. 

I've only seen White Line Fever and Unlawful Entry from his filmography, though I enjoyed both and he was clearly an accomplished director and studios clearly thought he was versatile enough to tackle all sorts of material. 

RIP.

Great in so many roles, always oozing credibility, but Priscilla is an extraordinary movie given the cast it has.
