I saw one of Paddington leading him away, which didn’t make sense. He has no definition. 

I think this is the third report of his death but this one seems legit. He won’t be bothering any young, toned men ever again.

Boxer Joe Bugner, aged 75

Both my mum and dad were/are big boxing fans. My dad was a big fan of Bugner but my mum hated him. They had a bet, not for a lot of money but a bet is a bet. My dad bet that Bugner would be a world champion and my mum bet he wouldn't. After Bugner lost to Steffan Tangstad in early 1984. My mum was trying to collect on the bet, but my dad wasn't having it and just kept saying that Bugner could still make a comeback. 

They split up later in 84, not because of the bet I hasten to add, and my dad been the arsehole that he was never paid a penny in maintenance. My mum never bore a grudge over that, but she did bear a grudge over not getting paid on the bet and she would often mention it when they spoke. My dad would keep saying "he's gonna make a comeback" and he never paid. 

And comeback Bugner did. Lots of times over the years before finally having his last fight in June 1999, just two months before my dad died, bet unpaid. 

So RIP Joe Bugner, but to be honest that's not what my mum just said when I just told her. Her exact words were "Not winning a fucking world title now is he"

I once got laughed out of a family gathering for insisting my Mam was off to see Joe Bugner singing live in the early 90s. I meant Joe Longthorne. RIP to both. Hope they're having a singsong up there.

I remember buying into the hype for Bugner v Bruno.

Probably a damning indictment of British boxing at that time.

Joe Bugner fought some of the greatest Heavyweight's of all time in Ali and Frazer, and put up a good account for himself. Also fought a bunch of the other great 1970's American Heavyweights like Shavers and Lyle. He played his part in that golden era of Heavyweight boxing.

Never truly got the respect over here tbh. First for beating and retiring much loved Henry Cooper. And second he was also a massive wind up merchant. The Aussie Joe stuff was him pissing the British public about and being a Floyd Mayweather type heel.

He lived an interesting life before and after boxing. Sadly it seems, like a lot of old boxers he suffered severe dementia towards the end. 

RIP Aussie Joe.
