The thing that gnaws at my knackers is, it still seems for all the world like Cody is the main baby and the ultimate end goal and plan. Which is mad.

Literally passed up a Michelin star level steak, just to eat a burger out the bin in a few months.

Absolute madness.

Cody vs Lesnar at Saudi, Cody wins MITB (the fact it's in London means this will seem like a massive moment because it will be a a hot crowd), faces Reigns at Summerslam sounds a reasonable trajectory in theory.

Presumably this this is to create a stronger chase and some adversity for Cody so it feels like more of a struggle when he finally pushes the boulder the top of the mountain and overcomes Reigns.

The only problem is that they might have given up a surefire star-making moment to try for a longer story. If it works, great. If it doesn't they've sacrificed a potential red hot babyface run for what might be a lukewarm coronation. Not sure the risk outweighs the reward. We shall see.

On the plus side, Cody vs Lesnar feels like a fresh match and there's not a lot left for babyface Brock to do outside the title picture so the feud makes sense as a go-to option. Just would have made more sense as a feud for the belts.

Didn't watch the show but caught the main event angle and really enjoyed it.

Cody/Brock is a fucking great match on paper and Lesnar turning heel for the first time in a couple of years freshens him up. As much as I've loved Cowboy Brock the babyface, if he's going to revert to full-on Psycho Heel Brock, that's good stuff.

Hell of a deal to put on top at either Backlash or the next Saudi show (you'd presume the latter).

From PWInsider, so take it for what it's worth -

Quote

Vince McMahon was personally and heavily involved with last night's episode of Monday Night Raw, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources.

PWInsider.com is told that about 15-20 minutes before Raw went live on the air, a number of late rewrites for the episode were ordered, described as not "feeling" like the type of changes talents and staff had come to expect under Paul Levesque. Changes for the episode continued as the show well into being on the air and we are told they came directly from McMahon, who had his own office at Raw, just as he did before his "retirement" in the summer of 2022.

While McMahon stated he would not be "in the weeds" of creative on CNBC yesterday, we were told by multiple sources who were at Raw that there was no doubt that Vince was firmly back in charge following the Endeavor acquisition of the company.

PWInsider.com is told the night started with Paul Levesque on headsets running Raw, but as the taping went on, it was McMahon who was more and more involved as the point person running the show. While McMahon was on headset producing a few times over Wrestlemania 39 weekend, he was at the gorilla position for most of last night's Raw taping, directly overseeing the proceedings.

Among some talents we spoke with, there was a huge negative shift in morale as they realized that things were going to go back to "exactly where they were" before Paul Levesque was placed in control as Chief Content Officer. One source said the "place felt nuked" but others didn't go that far. The feeling was that going forward, the likelihood was that McMahon would be overseeing everything again, leaving the creative once again to his whims and sensibilities, although whether that actually plays out remains to be seen.

A big part of that feeling of resignation was that Levesque is genuinely liked and trusted by the talents, especially since so many came through the WWE NXT system, and for some of them, that feeling of security many had felt in the run from Summerslam to Wrestlemania was no longer a given - and would be far departure from how some we spoke to felt tonight.

Other talents more or less shrugged it off, feeling they always suspected "all roads" would lead to McMahon being back in the central creative role eventually, but wanted to see if this would be a regular thing or whether it just happened last night because McMahon was at TV due to being in Los Angeles for Wrestlemania and the acquisition announcement.

One person joked WWE was always McMahon's world and now it's back in the palm of his hand after he willingly gave it up last summer.

More as we confirm.

"No more in the weeds".

Fxxxing hell. The merger must have been going down on afternoon of Night 1 for there to have been this seismic a sea change in the last 48 hours. Poor Hunter; to have spent a good year trying to get things creatively on a new track ands to finally be seeing the fruits of his labours AND making it to the milestone of his first Mania at the helm, and it gets undone for the sake of corporate continuity. Even that idea sounds like bullshit - is there past evidence of a change in champion shifting the share value? It can't be coincidence that UFC merges with WWE and the 'big' post-Mania reveals are Lesnar and Riddle; it has that Saudi-esque stink of an exec spouting out names they know without knowing the state of the current show. Vinnie Mac must be able to turn it on at the right times, though, because I don't know how the mad bastard manages to convince people he belongs in the lead. It feels like he's chucking Lesnar at Cody because he wants to see Cody bumped to fuck. Thanks for putting the company before your own health and turning the whole audience around on you to make this year's Mania one of the hottest of all time - now get destroyed and back in line, Stardust.

I'm not going to lie, the opening promo still had me. A very optimistic, generous reading of it would have you think they basically pulled off getting Roman's vicious booing back from the smart arse fans, only with his far superior Tribal Chief character. Essentially weeding out the "He's so brilliant we love him now" reactions he has been getting for the last two years or so.

My heart also stopped for a moment when Heyman gave the condition that whoever tagged with Cody could not challenge Reigns for the belt again. Fantasy booking alert but I immediately thought "Fucking Sami, yes! He sticks his neck out again, and when Cody dethrones Roman, he has to give Sami a title shot in return."

And yeah Brock Lesnar in your top programme is nothing to be sniffed at so long as he's not getting another title match with Reigns. But if you put Lesnar's inclusion together with taking the above report on Vince with more than a pinch of salt then yikes. Lesnar's been Vince's calling card for years now.

Lesnar/Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in the Octagon, anyone? Bet they're pissed they already announced it for Philly.

Well, the people who said what for the payoff for Cody probably feel a bit silly now. It's just Cena v Rock 2 all over again.

I remember the Raw after Mania was must see TV. NXT call ups, debuts or returning wrestlers and important storylines set up. This was trash.
