The AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite Thread

I do wonder how all the jumping around from promotion to promotion will continue once the world is back to normal and everyone needs to carry on their live events etc. I do wonder if they'll be so friendly then, or if this is simply a good opportunity to do so while they can't actually run their own shows and all that.

I get the excitement and I understand the potential. I'm also wary of leaning too much into it due to places like ROH failing to build their own stars and relying on imports etc.

I think AEW are smarter than that, plus they've done well enough to build a foundation already, so it's more of an added bonus than anything.

when AEW was first being announced, the prospect of working closely with other promotions was the most exciting aspect of it all for me - they made a big point of the AAA relationship, of working closely with Japanese promotions in the women's division, and of working with OWE, and PAC showed up wearing his Dragon Gate belt.

Before things with OWE went tits-up, that was the thing I was most excited by - some of the talent there genuinely had the potential to be to AEW what Rey Misterio Jr was to WCW, in terms of representing a leap forward in what smaller wrestlers are capable of.

That sense of being a promotion at the pinnacle of wrestling, rather than as a promotion outside of the rest of wrestling, like how WWE so often presents itself, was a good way to make AEW look like something more than another WWE. I think you're right that the pandemic has forced their hand in terms of working with certain promotions, but I'm glad it's happening and hope it continues, whether with this set of promotions or just with the sense of openness that allows for them working with others.

Meltzer and Alvarez were talking about this recently - the pandemic has kind of helped and hindered. Apparently, NJPW didn't have much faith that AEW would be a success and the then-CEO was pissed off at how it was approached. However, since then, there's been a thawing of things. They *really* want Moxley to be a semi-regular in NJPW and they have to deal with AEW for that. And Ibushi and Omega clearly want to work together (and holy shit, the potential that could have as a Wrestle Kingdom main event next year).

However, the pandemic means they can't take that much advantage of it for a while. They're limited in who can be where. KENTA is there because he lives in Florida. Their NJPW Strong show means Moxley can appear there. So, when the world is back to normal, I think it could even be more interesting.

That wedding was fucking shit. Also found myself annoyed by Play Ojo in every ITV advert break and Excalibur.
What was Tully going to do to Marko Stunt?
Oh great, Janela is back.

Cool. What did you like?

Have I remembered it wrong or was Cody’s mixed tag match originally announced for the Pay Per View, then switched to Dynamite? Makes me wonder if they rehearsed it and realised it could never be done live due to Shaq and Jade’s inexperience, so they’re going to pre-tape and edit it.

Looks like the PPV will be on the same weekend as the NBA all star game which Shaq will be working on.

If I had that wrestling wedding on my telly and porn on my laptop and my mother walked into the room, I’d switch off the telly.

My wife usually watches some of Dynamite while I’m catching up with it on a Saturday morning. The wedding segment was the first time she’s ever asked why I watch this shit.

I enjoyed the main event this week but might have to go back and watch it again after reading all the raves it got in here. KENTA’s appearance had been spoiled for me but I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with him. I was a big fan from the days of NOAH on TWC and his special guest appearances in ROH, and it was a shame - one amazing pair of video packages about the time he got to the pre-show of WrestleMania aside - he never clicked in WWE.

I know the Gunn Club

They could have a decent lower mid card act with the Gunn Club if they decided to use them that way. I love Billy Gunn but his sons are right unlikeable prats.

Let Billy have a mid life crisis and politic his boys into good positions whilst living through them, that is a better position for them.

If it means we can get past this Shaq stuff sooner and move Cody into a proper program I’m all for it.

Have Kota Ibushi and Rey Fenix ever had a one-on-one match? Ever since it became apparent they’re working with New Japan it’s all I’ve thought about. That and Eddie Kingston fighting Minoru Suzuki.

I'd absolutely lose my mind if MiSu turned up on Dynamite.

Nick Comoroto and Aaron Solow have been added to The Nightmare Family, according to Cody’s Twitter. Has anyone at all benefited from being part of that group? I’ve no idea what purpose it serves.
