According to g to Box Office Mojo, it’s taken around $95million worldwide for its opening weekend, $43million of which was domestic which is only slightly better than last years Snow White which was a complete disaster I. That it was poorly received by both critics and audiences. It’s still yet to open in certain markets (Japan probably being the biggest yet to open) but it’s not a great number, but not a total disaster so far either. Which seems impossible when you actually watch it. Deadline have it tracking for a $100 to $125 million loss. Quote

It's a victim of; 1) you're remaking a film that only came out 10 years ago, so it feels too soon 2) the second film only came out a few years back so again, this feels too soon 3) regardless of how soon it is, nobody gives a shit about these awful live-action remakes anyway and lastly, 4), people are sick to death of the Rocks one-note over-exposed schtick. In regards to my last point, The Smashing Machine flopping is the worst thing that could have happened as it means The Rock will double-down on 'safe' projects like this until the day he dies. Quote

Moana 2 did well, but if you're talking live-action films where Rock is presented as the main star, I'd say you'd have to go back to 2018's Skyscraper. He's been in a couple films that have done well since (Jumanji being one) but it's quite telling that all of his successes come from ensemble films now whereas everything that is presented as a 'Dwayne Johnson Movie' does shite. Was doing an individual lesson with a cool lady and we get on very well, so there's never any awkwardness or that. We were reading a BBC article about the top 10 films to see this July and we get to Moana and she starts laughing incredulously telling me "this means something different to Italians". Amused, I asked what it means and she told me Moana was a famous Italian porn actress (I was sure to do some research afterwards to confirm). But yeah, that was funny. Italians have a tendency to change film titles so here it's called Oceania. Quote
