I'm yet to meet anyone that considered her one of the most beautiful women in cinema history. 

I never saw the fuss myself, but I'm willing to accept that I'm a bit odd, but I don't remember ever meeting anyone that didn't just shrug and start talking about Raquel Welch instead.

There is a conventional beauty to her absolutely, but very much in the sense of that first wave of Hollywood/European cinema that eventually she didn't pale in comparison as such but kinda blended in. I think her character portrayal played a major part in the assumption though. 

As for her, a right wing bigot who was homophoboc, xenophobic, racist and was on record as trying to punch herself in the stomach while pregnant in order to abort her son because abortions were illegal at the time but she didn't want to lose her figure or be a mother. I mean the son eventually sued her for comments in one of her books. 

She'll be defended by some as a product of her time, maybe even influenced by her last husband but all in all she seemed an utterly unlikeable character stuck in the wrong century and industry.

Hugh Morris of Glam and England fame aged 62. A tremendous county pro who was a linchpin of the excellent Glamorgan side of the mid 90's which my dad talked about at any opportunity, probably with Land of My Fathers blaring loudly in his head.

Sheeeeeiiiiiiiiit, Isiah Whitlock Jr aka The Wires Senator Clay Davis passed away. That may be his most famous role but I’ve always enjoyed him when he frequently appears in other films and shows such as The 25th Hour where he has the same catchphrase as his Wire character.

In a show full of memorable characters he stood out, RIP.

He was randomly a fan of Scottish football team Stenhousemuir and feuded with Chris Sutton on Twitter after he slagged them off a couple of times. A crossover no one ever expected.

Ah man, that’s a sad one. As has been said, a standout memorable character and performance in a show packed with them. Don’t need much of a catalyst for yet another Wire rewatch, maybe this is it. Most recently enjoyed him in the sadly underappreciated  Netflix mini series The Residence. He was hilarious in it. RIP.

The second night of this was excellent, it was also lovely to see Robert Reynolds (founding member who was sacked about 10 years ago due to addiction issues) back on stage with the band for a couple of songs.

Valiant efforts by the guest vocalists, and the band sounded great, but no one could ever make those songs sound like Raul could make them sound.

Pa O'Dwyer, five time Ireland's Strongest Man and, most recently, piss funny Internet personality, has died aged 40. Really shocked me this, unbelievably young and seemed like a genuinely good bloke, defending people bullied online and calling out the cunts. Was a big campaigner for mental health too so really feels like we've lost a good one. Fantastic moustache too.

Derek Martin has passed aged 92.  He was most famous for being in Eastenders in his later years, but was more known in the 70’s and 80’s as hard man villain of the week in nearly every police and detective show that was on.  The Sweeney, The Professionals, Minder, cant really remembe4 one he didn’t show up in.

He used to live round Feltham where I grew up. Used to always see him down the supermarket and he always had time for people and was a gent. He moved away in his later years, but did come back for the lucrative gig of opening Gala Bingo.

Erich Von Daniken, aged 90. Author of Chariots Of The Gods and many other books in the same vein; he didn't create the "Ancient Aliens/Astronauts" idea, but his books were the first to make it mainstream, and I hold him and the media and publishing ecosystem that celebrated him responsible for some of the worst damage ever done to the sum of public knowledge. The old fraud being dead does nothing to change that.
