Don’t think I can really add much that hasn’t been said.

An incredible wide ranging body of work, absolutely tragic news to wake up to

the news breaking via People magazine across some American sites now (potentially to be taken with a grain of salt, as I don't think the police have confirmed it) is that the Reiners were murdered by their son Nick. Absolutely horrible situation.

Reiner was such a constant that you never really thought of him in terms of all-time greats, because he just kept on working at such a high standard, across so many different genres and ideas, so you never pinned him down to a handful of iconic films or quirks of filmmaking; there's no Reiner equivalent to Lynchian, or Spielbergian, or anything like that. But he has a run of movies where you could honestly say that if it had been the only film he ever made, it would still be enough to have cemented a legacy - to have This Is Spinal Tap as your directorial debut, and then in under a decade manage to pull off The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally..., Misery, and A Few Good Men is an incredible run of form.

I'm shocked. I saw something either in my way to bed last night or at a point when I woke up to see that two bodies had been found at the Reiner residence, but then to see the update that it was he and his wife. I loved Spinal Tap, and had no idea he'd directed some of those other movies. I'm such a philestine. Horrible loss, and a dreadful way to go.

If asked to name my top 3 favourite films, Spinal Tap & Princess Bride would definitely be among them.

He did a good reading of Princes Bride for the audiobook if anyone fancies listening to that. He's actually not that great of a narrator tbh, but he has such a love for the story and such a warm voice that it just works anyway.

I have to admit, when my wife woke me up this morning with the news, my first thought was "what? The camp judge off ITV?" 

But when I dusted the cobwebs off and realised my wife didn't say Rinder, I was gutted. What was amazing about him was that he could put his hand on any genre of film and create a classic.

This is Spinal Tap is my favourite comedy of all time, and in tribute tonight I will give it my 126th watch, at volume 11 of course.

Now being reported that Nick Reiner has been arrested and is being held in custody pending a $4million bail

Read somewhere that its also being investigated as gang activity. Starting to get this really uneasy feeling that the son has tried to burgle the property (past addiction issues could still be a thing) with some others and the Reiners have been home and got caught up in it. 

That they're reporting him as being in custody but not arrested but with a bail amount set does seem to all tie in to multiple others maybe being involved. 

Stand By Me is one of those classic movies I think you can watch again and again and finding This Is Spinal Tap in my early teen years is probably one of the reasons I got so into that genre of music. 

I also loved that outwardly he never was too insulted by the South Park depiction of him, along the lines that he found it funny but wasnt that fat. For an industry that was very thin skinned its always nice when someone doesn't mind a joke being made.

That wouldn't fit the statement the police released saying they're not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

I mean this with the utmost respect, but I feel like we're getting into speculative territory, and I'd say it might be better to wait til there are more facts before we start theorising on what happened. 

Also, as always, this is a public, very easily googled forum, always best to err on the side of caution in what is said when it concerns in legal matters, especially when they're ongoing.
