He was 53 in the first episode. There's an account at https://twitter.com/MeldrewPoint that posts when somebody reaches the same age (to the day). Jay Z, Ed Miliband and Jay K are recent additions.

What a fantastic Twitter. It also creates a "had a hard paper round" thread by itself too.

A 53 year old retiree? Richard Wilson was very young for the part at the time then. Unless Victor had retired early (not watched it for years).

This is probably more Mandela effect but I thought Michael Madsen died about 5 years ago, due to some kind of drug overdose.

I'm guessing I just mixed him up with someone else as he is still appearing in about 50 shite movies a year.

He did, in the first episode he's given early retirement at 60 and replaced with an electric buzzer and answering machine IIRC.

Another ITV comedy stalwart who's still with us is Brian Murphy, or George from George and Mildred. I occasionally forget he's not dead, possibly because Yootha Joyce (Mildred) died in the early 80s.

Stan from Wizadora too, which is what I know him as. Baffled he's still alive as he looked ancient when I was watching that.

People who appeared in ITV's Comedians is goldust for this. The Hulkster, Russ Abott, still dropping the big leg despite being 70 in the early 80's.

That’s just a rip off of the Wilfred Brimley one.

He was part of the final trio on Last Of The Summer Wine alongside Russ Abbott and the late Buet Kwouk.

Eva Marie Saint - wonderful in North by Northwest and On the Waterfront - turned 99 yesterday.

It’s not that I consciously thought she’d died, I just couldn’t believe she was still alive when I read of her birthday yesterday.

Here she is five years ago, in incredible nick.

This one has floored me.  I have vague memories of watching George and Mildred reruns on Gold in the 90s and my brain can't compute how someone that seemed so old even then (on a show that was already 20 years old) can still be alive.  Looking him up on Wikipedia he was only early 40's when G&M.started!
