What's this now?

#PrinceOfPegging was trending on Twitter a while back.

If you missed it at the time, sorry to be the one to break it to you now.

EDIT: Keith expertly put it in a more subtle way than I could manage.

I know people in the police told not to expect to see their family the next ten days. With the change Over the terror threat goes up and you get more police out and about to give people the sense of security. So non essentials like football get shut down. If the funeral is the Sunday then I’d expect next week off as well, most domestic games to start back post international break

They made today Day 0 as opposed to Day 1 to allow the funeral to be Monday 19th, as part of the 10 day protocol.

You can’t do great events of state on Sunday’s.

The 19th still needs to be signed off by security services and police though, as Mondays typically aren’t preferred either.

I’ve spent the last 32 hours in the office it feels like. Quite happy we’ve got the Test match up and running tomorrow.

I think his bedroom antics have been completely kept out of the newspapers in England, so it's one of those ridiculous things where it's common knowledge everywhere but here.

True. At least there isn't an audio recording of him saying he wishes he could be reincarnated as a tampon... unlike his father.

FYI, the real reason football cancelled is policing. The EFL, and some Premier League teams, couldn’t get confirmation from local police forces that they could get requisite numbers to police the game, as forces may be re-routed to local memorials, or as part of royal death contingencies they could be re-routed to the Capital if mourners become too much.

For whatever reason, it appears The FA tried to ‘own the moment’ and make a statement of it. It failed miserably, as all sports without policing regulations went ‘nah, we’re just going to crack on lads.’

Every chance the football gets cancelled next week too by the way, as very small chance mourning gets less as we get closer to the funeral.

Is this mentioned anywhere in any statement, as I haven't seen it mentioned.

Whereas I saw a shedload of tweets earlier saying it WASN'T a policing issue (sods law, I can't find them now)

Obviously if it is that, then fine, but would like to see some clarification.

No, as like I say the FA have tried to make a broader point - for whatever reason you may want to speculate on.

I don’t think I need to go into details, but I’m pretty solid on this stuff. I’m not outside the tent pissing in, as it were.

This gets half the way there: https://www.sportbible.com/football/fear-that-football-matches-could-be-postponed-next-weekend-as-well-20220909

Anyway, up here I expect North Wales Police have spent the past day dreading the prospect of a coronation for William (already bald and 40 and whose bedroom habits are public knowledge, not universally seen as "lovely" like @BomberPat claimed) in Caernarfon sometime in the next couple of years. It was already quite a tense scene last time they tried that spectacle back in 1969.

Makes you wonder how many resources would be freed up if the police didn't have to babysit drunk football fans every weekend.

[Yes, I know that in that hypothetical situation the government would probably just cut the freed up police officers, shut up]
