Paid Members Lenin Posted August 21, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted August 21, 2021 That was one of the most incredible moments in wrestling history. In 30 plus years watching wrestling, nothing even comes close. AEW have it figured out. The fact that everyone knew what was going down for months beforehand and deliver it with no gimmicks, no bait and switch, just pure joy and emotion, is testament to their leadership and understanding of wrestling fans. Tony Khan's tweet before the show about how he was going to give the fans what they wanted was brilliant. They are everything the WWE isn't and I love them for it. I am enjoying wrestling on a regular basis again thanks to them.  Absolutely teared up BEFORE the music hit, that's how much the crowd got me going. 100% yes and well done all round. RIDDUM_N_STYLE
Holy shit that pop was something else, bigger than any of the Chi-Town pops he got in WWE. Haven’t gotten to watch much of the promo other than laying the challenge to Darby for All Out but that is going to be one hell of a rub, working Punk’s first match in 7 1/2 years while having Sting in his corner I kinda figured they wouldn’t swerve the crowd or the TV audience purely because of the fact that they brought in JR to do PBP to make it an even bigger deal, no offence to Excalibur like
Paid Members WeeAl Posted August 21, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted August 21, 2021 That initial rush, the first burst of the pop out of the crowd as the music hit? MAN was that loud! I think that's the loudest single pop ever. If anything rivals it, maybe Austin in 98-99 some of the nights when the glass broke, but sweet Jesus, I never thought we'd hear a noise like that again on a wrestling show.
DavidB6937
Is Punk returning the final 'massive' moment we had left? I know that probably sounds dramatic but with so many returning from injuries over the years etc, I do wonder if this is the last one we were really waiting for. Undoubtedly there'll be plenty of enjoyable and big moments in years to come but this really felt like the final one so many had been holding out on. I can't think of anything in that league that we're now waiting for. Austin maybe but I don't feel like that's something anyone really expects is ever possible as he seems more than happy to sit out. AndyUK
What a moment. Punk looked so chuffed to be there. So many great matches to look forward to hopefully.

Bossman coming in as the Joker during the next Casino Battle Royale. And wow I don't remember a time where I've legit got so choked up during a wrestling angle, that was fucking magic. I honestly can't see anything like that happening in the next 5-10 years. Fortunately AEW are in the business of creating new stars and new, organic moments based entirely on their own very short history and product so there'll be plenty happening that comes close. The reaction to Mox and Jungle Boy's entrances on a weekly basis I'd have considered 'massive' from the doldrums of 2009. But a return moment? Nah, that's it. We can argue about the numbers (Mason!) until the cows come home, but that man has a fucking wild connection with that audience - however large that audience is - and I don't see a building going the same way for anyone for a long time. Much as I love the guy, Danielson's return already seems relatively ordinary in comparison. Different circumstances, I know. I don't think I'd have him pop up like that. A run in, perhaps. It needs to feel different. I wouldn't bother trying to replicate that because it's not happening. Edited August 21, 2021 by Gay as FOOK

Trouble is the longer you wait for an austin the more the generation who loved austin of people getting that pop won't care, were talking nearly 15 years and I'm sure it would be met the same as Goldberg. This I think is the biggest pop this generation will have, even Daniel Bryan coming back won't top him winning the big one at WM30 Edited August 21, 2021 by 2Xtreme_lives

SuperBacon
Not gonna lie, really wanting one of them ice creams was my main takeaway from the whole thing. And how much I still fancy Punk.
Paid Members Nick James Posted August 21, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted August 21, 2021 You go out with the family for the morning and come back to people comparing CM Punk to Christian, madness. I honestly can't see Bryan getting a pop like that last night and almost feels like Bryan should have been first. The magic of wrestling, eh? I've been at my lowest with wrestling over the last year. From WWE putting out it's worst stuff ever, to the ever tedious bitching and backbiting between AEW fans and WWE fans, I have gotten to a point where I dip in and out and barely watch a full show. However, I watched the whole of Dynamite on Wednesday and didn't skip a thing and that whole segment last night just made me feel like a kid again. I don't think I'll ever fully get back to watching every show each week, but AEW are certainly grabbing my attention.
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted August 21, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted August 21, 2021 Was a heck of a pop. He looked genuinely moved by the response and was enjoying himself. Having JR there to make the call was the right thing to do, because Jericho blustering his way through this in character could have ruined it for the fans at home. I know JR hasn't always been great in AEW, but he knew what needed to be done and he delivered. This is how he should be used. Bring him in for the big stuff. PPV main events, sit down interviews and the like. The promo did what it needed to do. He was sincere, I love that he didn't mention WWE and said he'd been away from pro wrestling for 16 years. It's like what they used to do when people had been away for a spell in TNA and came back to WWE. I'm sure he'll be in some kind of decent shape and his mind will still be sharp as well. I've no doubt he'll put on a decent match with Darby at the PPV. There could be some interesting interactions with Gallows, Cabana and a few others as well while he's there. Hopefully he can stay away from Cody. How do you bring Danielson in now? I'd shave him completely bald and bring him in as a heel. You know he's got the charisma to do it. Make it about Punk. "You showed him all that love, but nothing for me. He took his ball and went home, but I stayed in that toxic environment, and even thrived because I'm better than he is, which means I'm certainly better than all the rest of you." it can write itself, and it'd keep them both away from Omega while they try and rescue the whole Hangman page debacle.
