Minor Annoyances (Vol 2)

I ordered a 4K disc from Australia a couple of weeks back as the film isn’t available over here.

Depending which app/broawer I look at it’s either still in Paramatta in Australia, or it’s in Langley here in the UK where it’s waiting to clear Customs, or it’s cleared Customs and is at Sheffield Sort Facility where’s it’s supposedly been for the last 9 days

Wasn't particularly hot in the office yesterday, in fact it was nice and cool. We do this thing every Monday where we all stand around and one of the SMT updates us on important things (I hate calling it a huddle...but its a huddle) and the amount of people stood there, looking like divs, with those little fans was amazing. It was around 75%. Can you not go without it for 10 minutes?

It's the new "massive water bottle" annoyance for me Clive.

It wasn't those ones that go around your neck and need charging regularly was it? They are ridiculous and serve little purpose other than  to cool a little part of your neck

Getting gouged is always annoying but recently I’ve come across some particularly egregious examples.

Was in a mall not long ago and glanced at a vending machine for the first time in years - not the best example, I know, but seriously, who the fuck is paying £1.35 for a baby bag of crisps or £1.60 for a 500ml drink, even if you’re desperate and on the go?? Same trip, I went by the Cadbury factory/outlet shop to see if there were bargains. I love a crème egg, but at peak season I’ll never pay the 70p supermarket price because eventually those 5 packs usually end up on £2.50 Clubcard price so you pay 50p each, what is about what one nibble of choc might be worth. In said outlet, box was £3.79, so >75p each. Robbing bastards!!

Finally, at the other end of the spectrum, went to charity shops with raid-in-law yesterday and couldn’t believe someone had donated an empty bottle of Monkey Shoulder - hardly a collectors item even if you’re into whiskey - and they were asking £5 for it. Who buys an empty booze bottle for £5????

Our leisure centre charges £2:50 for a bottle of drink and £1:50 for a chocolate bar/bag. It's a rip off

Edit: just been in WH Smiths at Broomfield Hospital - £2:89 for a bottle of fizzy pop!

A BP garage had Red Bull for just under £4 a can!

Years ago I worked very briefly in a service station and the manager explained their price gouging as down to "What are they going to do - walk across the street for something cheaper?".

I've been using cheapo earphones daily for the best part of 30 years and never had a problem.

Decided to bite the bullet and invest in a half-decent pricier set (only £90, but still a big increase on the £10-20 ones I usually get) and they're easily the worst earphones I've ever had. They don't fit! It doesn't matter what size bud I use, they just don't go in the ear properly and are really oddly shaped.

The brand is JBL* and apparently its some kind of patented twist method where you have to put the earphone in then twist it until its snug, but so far when I'm wearing them I'm just alternating between 'hardly put the bud in so it falls out very easily' or 'put the bud in and twist but this will hurt almost instantly and feels ridiculously uncomfortable'.

I've looked online and nobody else seems to be having this issue, so I've either got uniquely shaped ears or I'm too stupid to know how to wear a pair of earphones. Either way, they're a load of bollocks and I'm going back to my fire-hazard £12 pair.

*not that one

You're not alone Lorne, I had the exact same problem with a pair of Google Pixel in ear headphones I got free with my phone. I had to do a "seal test" or something where the app told me whether they were in my ears correctly. I don't need an app to tell me that when they're falling out every few minutes.

When people say “That’s not my fault” or similar, when complaining about something

Sound like a petulant little child

I was part of an interview panel yesterday and one of the questions was about a time where they have dealt with negative or constructive criticism and one of the candidates just did not get it. After numerous examples of what they did after positive feedback and lots of prodding and poking and leading questions from me and the other interviewer they eventually came up with a negative example and actually said 'it wasn't my fault, someone else did it'. She went from a really strong candidate to poor in one question and that answer was the nail in the coffin. Pathetic for a grown up, and no self reflection what so ever!

This is very reassuring, as I know I've done some stupid things in my time but not being able to put earphones in would be a new low.

On a punt a few years ago, I swapped my trusty headphones for some Samsung in-ear buds as I seen a decent offer somewhere online. Asked for a refund the same day they came through the post as they were absolutely horrible. They would just not sit properly, and I was sat still on my sofa! A slow paced walk would have them falling out every ten seconds. They came with three different sizes of bud for the optimal fit, and they were all as shite as each other. I'm convinced the designer had never seen a human ear before. Look at the fucking state of these.

Still puzzled over the five star reviews. Do we just have abnormal sized ears or something?
