I buy and sell vinyl on there, and more often than not people will take a respectable offer for what they’ve got something listed at. Last night I offered £15 for a copy of Black Sabbath’s ‘Master of Reality’ album. Not an original pressing, one that was reissued several years after by a different label. £5 under was basically me asking for free postage plus a couple of quid. The seller has had it on the platform for over four months, so clearly they’re struggling to move it for the price they’ve listed it at. Made the offer last night and went to bed not thinking much more of it, if they accept it great if they don’t no big deal. Woke up this morning to a ranting message about how the seller has already dropped the price from £30 (how the Hell am I supposed to know that?), how “that’s the average price on Discogs” as if that’s some kind of true valuation and not just a different kind of car boot sale, and how it was a completely unacceptable offer. They’ve also had the cheek to jack the price back up to £30, as if that’s going to somehow make the thing sell now. Im not even going to dignify it with a response, but Jesus Christ it was £5 and you’ve not shifted it since listing it in March. No, it doesn't "go" for that, a chancer has listed it at that price, There is a big difference between the two. Quote

As a seller we get idiots offering us £5 for an item that is listed at £50 etc. Most resellers who are full time have costs etc to cover just like any other business. The guy who messaged WyattSheep was way over the top but I get the seller's frustation. Also most resellers use an app called Ebay Solds which tells you what something sold for and that is what we try to price it as. I always price it 20% cheaper then the average sold price. I take offers and I am always accepting offers lower then what I want for it. The aim is to list as high as possible knowing that 90% of your items wont sell for the price you set it for but to maximize how much we make from the item. Quote

I tend to work off the a rule of taking off the postage cost (which is usually is around £3 for what I buy) minus another 10%, which is what I offered in this instance and I don’t think is unreasonable. Maybe I’m just trying to justify my actions, but had I been the seller in this situation and I still had this after 4 months of it having not sold, I’d be taking the first decent offer that came my way. You didn't do anything wrong. I just think maybe he was in a bad mood or was sick of not getting the price he wanted for that item. Quote
