Members SuperBacon Posted October 21, 2024 Members Posted October 21, 2024 Online parents evening. Blessed that you don't have to actually go, but it's like speed dating. 5 minutes and BAM! you're thrown out of History and into Maths. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted November 3, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 3, 2024 7:45 - Get woken up an hour before my Sunday alarm goes off by my daughter yelling "YOU SIGN.... PIRATE". 7:46 - Go to the bog for a piss - that's where my daughter's yelling from. 7:47 - Decide to make an early breakfast in the meantime. Go in the kitchen to discover my son's made another of his 4am pizzas and left all the grated cheese in Stockport on the kitchen counter. 7:52 - Daughter gets off bog, I go in bog to discover she's blocked it with the biggest shit since that Brian Pillman one. Dr. Alan Grant Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) I really dislike those tiny microphones that people use when interviewing someone. It looks ridiculous. Bring back standard mikes! Edited November 4, 2024 by Dr. Alan Grant Quote

By all accounts, they were shit back then, but they'd be way better now, and they look better. Quote

Members SuperBacon Posted November 13, 2024 Members Posted November 13, 2024 (edited) Heard behind me yesterday on Winchester high street after someone spotted the big Christmas tree: "Oh god are we doing Christmas in mid November now?" Firstly you're not "doing Christmas" unless you're James Bond in The World Is Not Enough (God that's laboured) and secondly this isn't anything new, it's been like this for years. Did that person expect them to pop up a 40 foot tree just on Xmas eve? DON'T MAKE ME SIDE WITH CHRISTMAS! Edited November 13, 2024 by SuperBacon tis the season for edits Quote

Annoying as it is, we have been conditioned to get used to shops doing this for the past decade or so. However, I've seen at least two houses with Christmas trees in the window, one also with Christmas stockings. There are not enough Corkhill gifs in the world. Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted November 13, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 13, 2024 Three houses down my street put Christmas decorations up on November 1st. Way to early. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted November 13, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 13, 2024 the world's a shitheap at the moment, if people putting up their Christmas decorations early helps them get through, more power to them. I find people performatively complaining about it far more annoying than someone having some tinsel up in November. Quote

deathrey Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 (edited) We haven't got the Christmas tree up but I do have a light up Christmas tree-shaped ornament and a few other similar items out already, it brightens up the living room. Also, it was Diwali/Bandi Chhor Diwas a couple of weeks ago and I was ill-prepared so used these items instead, it's also a little safer than candles when you have a 2 year old and a 3 year old running around. organizedkaos Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I guess it really varies how quickly people burn out on Christmas. Christmas lights particularly around cities is something I really dig as part of the christmas ephemera, makes everything look pretty and special and makes the shift into colder months feel wonderland rather than in the bleak. My personal level of normalisation on something is about a month (I think 3 weeks is oft cited as a common level of that so it's not just me) After a month it's just the normal thing that my brain doesn't process as being anything other than what it always sees. Thus decorations in November, whilst having a nice effect when it happens, means that by Christmas there's nothing special. All fair play to you if you can maintain that christmas erection for 2 months. Problem is that by accomadating those people the rest of us are all pretty flacid when the main event comes around. Less Christmas spirit all round. Rubbish. I realise modern society is very "have all the things all the time, please graze fatted calf on the wonderous delights the modern world affords us" but yeah it's not bad to remember "special" does rather imply "not the norm" Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted November 16, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 16, 2024 My wife got a nice backdated pay this month so we made the most of it and got a new bed, and had a few meals out and that. As soon as the "extra" money was essentially gone, the brake discs and pads on my wife's car went and so we have a mechanic coming monday with a nice £200 bill. Typical, that'll fucking teach us.
