The American sports leagues like to try and present as level a playing field as possible, they're trying to implement similar rulings in F1 now that they own that as well. Not in so far as a draft, but in capping team budgets and the like. In the world of big money European football contracts it wouldn't happen, though. Or the teams that are regulars would tank their season in the hopes of getting a hot young prospect as there's no risk of them not qualifying. Also if there is a revolving door or qualifying teams from domestic leagues it could get a bit awkward.

I do wonder what the squads will look like if FIFA and UEFA manage to make good on their "no international football for players involved". Will it turn into the WCW of football with older players aiming for one last payday after the sun sets on their international career? Presumably the "clubs can still qualify" but is to try and present the fans with the possibility of clubs like Bayern, Ajax and PSG being able to play there without being involved with the actual administration of the league.

PSG winning the Chapions League then dumping the trophy in the bin on live tv before revealing their all new “ESL” shirts would be great.

This is the key difference isn’t it? US sport has an almost socialist aspect when it comes to levelling up. You’re the worst team? You get first pick of fresh talent. I can’t see how that can be implemented in football.

Football was handed over to corporate interests decades ago. A super league like this is inevitable. I am enjoying fan groups saying “It’s our club, not yours” though. Nah mate, it really isn’t

This is it for me, it’s more crooked and greedy than the current model but not by so much that I can muster outrage.

Talkshite are the ‘Global Audio Partner’ of the premier league whatever that means so there’s obviously going to be a lack of impartiality regardless of Murdoch’s involvement. Same with Sky Sports.

One of their best matchday analyists came storming out of the gate with revulsion. I can't see him sticking around if Sky are as on board as the above may infer.

Fair play to Neville if he quits over it but the rest will soon change their tune if the games go up for sale and Sky win out. Makes me wonder if Sky etc know there won’t be a bidding war and whether the games packages are already portioned out to Amazon or someone. Not that hypocrisy would stop them lapping up the rights if given the chance.

Boris Johnson can fuck off though.

Isn't this just like a glorified Emirates Cup or some other shit pre season cup but with more money thrown at it? I like to think this is the UKFF's doing after the ESL financers saw Arsenal and Spurs had been sent out to their own thread and saw a money making exercise. If it happens I may yet see West Ham win a league title in my life time after all.

This super league just means that playing "Footballer Of The Year" on the speccy is more realistic. I'm all for it.

I fucking loved footballer of the year! The frustration of having to manage your goal cards was worth the effort, without a doubt!

That's if the league carries on in it's current guise, there is absolutely no way clubs can afford for the Big 6 to leave. It will always be a tainted league if the best clubs from that country aren't in it.

Ian Holloway on Talk Shite this morning has said that the ESL is a betrayal of the memory of Prince Philip.

Shame. Was a fan of his nonsense ever since he described Charlie Adam as a “bag of carrots” that time. Should have known he was a bus worshipper.

I'm not saying this to namedrop, but because I think it's relevant. I had a few meals out with Holloway when he was in charge of Millwall, as my (now ex)brother-in-law played under him there.

I've got to say, he will be pissing himself at his comment, as he is very self-aware. He told me he had a huge book at home that he would write bullshit in to use in interviews to amuse himself.

n.b. I have not heard the comment mentioned though, so if he really was serious, fair enough!

Highly rumoured to be DAZN.

Saw earlier that DAZN had distanced themselves from it. I know it doesn't mean they are telling the truth, but it's something, I suppose.

Edit: Disney, Amazon and Facebook all rumoured to have held preliminary talks...
