Moderators PowerButchi Posted May 23, 2019 Moderators Share Posted May 23, 2019 My god, WWE have played a right dogshit with their statement. Â Thing is, no-one will care. That's the problem with wrestling. It's like pornography. It's seen as seedy so no-one who counts gives a toss.
Abe_Knuckleball_Schwartz
Shithouse statement by the WWE in my view.
SaitoRyo
Did anyone really expect them to say anything other than 'we're sorry about Ashley but this is all wrong?'. I also believe her affidavit and think it's a damn shame that this got mixed in with that incompetent lawyer's concussion lawsuits. I really hope something comes of it, though, because WWE need to realise that their actions have consequences and that they can't sweep this stuff under the rug forever.
AVM
Wow, that is a fucking awful statement. For me it actually backs up the characterisation of Vince McMahon in the affidavit - he is callous, terrified of negative PR despite a total lack of self awareness and has absolutely zero concept of the gravity of sexual assault and the effect it might have on a victim. It just takes insensitivity to a whole new level.
Guest
Just wanted to say I'm pleasantly surprised at how many here have cancelled their WWE Network subscriptions over this. I was pessimistic that there'd be anything more than a lot of hand-wringing and then straight back to the Raw thread to post about which matches and storylines everyone was looking forward to next. I hope this resolve holds, regardless of whether it brings about change in the company or not. Standing by your principles is simply the right thing to do, for its own sake. You either condone it or you don't, and if I hadn't already sworn off the McMahon empire over their cosying up to Trump and the Saudi prince, this would surely have been the last straw for me. Paid Members Chris B Posted May 23, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted May 23, 2019 Not just here. I've been seeing a lot of it on twitter too in response to the thread. It's been quote-tweeted a lot. WWE's statement is interesting for a whole bunch of reasons. 1 - It confirms the affidavit is real, and they knew what was in it. Which is why they tried to do their PR before it broke, to try and kill it off. Why did it take 5 days to get this statement? 2 - They say nobody in management knew about it. However, in their original response to the court, they say she was heard telling people about the 'inappropriate pelvic exam'. Who heard this, and when? 3 - They say that if they knew about her sexual assault, they'd have reported it to the base commander. Did they do so when they heard about the 'inappropriate pelvic exam', which clearly also counts as sexual assault? My biggest questions at this point: 1 -Â When they published highlighted excerpts from her email apologising, what else did it say? 2 - Did they change their policies with regards to unaccompanied women? If so, when and why?
The King Of Swing
I'd been on the verge of dumping the WWE for a while. This was the last straw. Things had been piling up for years.
LCJ
The Sun Sport have tweeted the denial. Vile newspaper but it’s gone mainstream.

The Gaffer
Seeing a lot more of the story in general since the WWE response. Generic Google search of just her name is littered with it now, whereas before the response there wasn't much. They've only gone and legitimised it more as a story, with that.
2Xtreme_lives
It's only small but me and my three main buddies have unsubscribed from the network this morning with this statement being the last straw also

Loki
I don't believe that WWE statement for a minute. Â And it's a good indication that, despite the public softening over the years, at its heart the company is just as fucking ruthless as ever. Why would she lie? All the case needed was testimony about head injuries. Â To bring up all this other, terrible stuff smacks of someone finally getting things off her chest. Â Someone out there, some of the other players mentioned in her affidavit, know the truth, but they also know if they speak up they'll never work for WWE again. Â It's nut cutting time.
