Can't say I'm surprised with the amount of players leaving and lack of incoming players...plus losing to Bristol City won't have helped matters along with last seasons performances. I have to say, I didn't think Howe would last the season, but I at least expected him to start it. It's some timing and I assume he's just knackered/burnt out and needs to step away. Will always appreciate what he did getting us back into the UCL and winning us that first trophy in too long. Quote

Last season was a disappointment for them but fighting on two fronts with a weakened squad and players constantly having one eye on the exit door was clearly too much. That the reports were "Eddie Howe is under pressure" and not just about how dreadfully Newcastle have navigated PSR and gone about their transfer business is a crime, really. The Isak saga and the sale of Elliott Anderson are Newcastle's last few years in a nutshell. And somehow, despite still having players Steve Bruce had, Howe has delivered a trophy and two years of CL revenue. He leaves at a great time. This summer looks a disaster for them unless they go pull two or three big signings out. Howe still has a great reputation and looks an England manager in waiting. BrodyGraham Posted July 30 Posted July 30 (edited) I'll always be grateful to Howe for his first 3 and a half years but the Saudi project at Newcastle hasn't felt like it's been on solid ground from the off really. I think that Amanda Staveley and her husband are basically snake oil salesmen who've promised everyone including Howe the world and the realities of the situation have been very different. In a way we're more fixed to do what we were always supposed to be doing which is emulating the Brighton model. Hopefully we can all be sensible about it (we won't), and two years down the line everyone at the club will have had a lovely time. Edited July 30 by BrodyGraham Quote

Isak last year as well, Woltemade becoming absolutely pants after a good start, Wissa and Elanga have been crap, I don't blame him. Newcastle could be in big trouble if they're not careful. Not a deep squad, and Spurs last season should be a warning to any club that if your momentum nosedives, its very hard to climb back out of the shit. Quote

You'd hope so but they've been covering their arses by stating that this was an offer they were putting on the table in some democratic process. I don't think that washes, it's clearly been discussed in secret (again) and was to be presented with little time to decide and with monetary offers, almost blackmail. The biggest problem might be finding someone to run against him, although if he resigns in disgrace, as he should, that might open up the field. Quote

Briefcase Posted July 31 Posted July 31 I might be wrong and don't like to get political at the best of times let alone this thread but this stinks of Trump's influence off the back of the World Cup, all those hydration breaks (commercials), high ticket prices, surge in hotel room rates etc just feels like they were trying to sell the value of the World Cup. Trump probably has some connection with the investors too and was buddy buddy with Infantino during the whole world cup. Quote

Trumps son in laws brother is apparently the lead investor Definitely is Something he has devised over dinner with Trump and his mates. Its completely baffling how Infantino seems to have gone about this When your own senior advisor is quitting over it and claiming he had no prior knowledge of this before Tuesdays announcement I think it's clear he seemingly spoke to no one about this and just announced it out of nowhere. He has even followed the Trump example and blamed the media for the overwhelmingly negative reaction to the announcement. With the AFC now releasing the statement opposing it, there won't be enough members already to back it. Infantino has shot himself in the foot with this one, has gone from being unopposed in a re election next year to potentially being forced out in a just a few days Quote
