If we had gone down, I'd have probably had a season ticket if offered on the thought that we'd come straight back up, which West Ham definitely will. I think the reductions were between 25 and 33% for their STs for the upcoming season. They're just about to bank nearly 170m off Fernandes and Summerville which nearly covers their not having Premier League TV money, which is really impressive as well. Keeping Bowen too, they'll romp the Championship. Southampton have also cleared their highest number of ST sales ever, and you could definitely say their club screwed them over in the spring, and also on a West Ham related note, Pompey are taking 9000 there for their Carabao Cup 2nd round game which is superb as well. They’re essentially in a rebuilding phase though, so hopefully this simply gives them time to iron out the kinks before the new season starts. I fear that the usual gulf between Celtic/Rangers and everyone else will re-emerge this season, though. Quote

To be honest though, I don’t think Scotland’s failure in the World Cup was inevitable. With the right coach, we could absolutely have qualified for the next round. I don’t buy into the deification of Steve Clarke at all. Yes, he got us to major tournaments, but the reality is it’s become easier to qualify for them. Doesn’t mean there wasn’t impressive results along the way, but goalkeeper aside, we’re better than our results and performances suggested. Problem is, I genuinely don’t know who ‘the right coach’ is… Quote

As far as I know, Celtic have only extended Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains contract and signed a striker from Qarabag. Daizen Maeda is off to Ipswich for only £8m plus add ons, Reo Hatate potentially away for as little as £3m. Arne Engels and Alistair Johnston also being linked with moves now. The supporters boycotted the weekends friendly in yet another protest against the board. The club seem to think they can barely try and still win. (which to be fair proved to be somewhat true last year) Rangers certainly look stronger and if they sign Lewis Ferguson - which I don’t think they will (why would he go there??) - they’ll have a team equipped to mount a title challenge. I’d love to see Hearts continue to grow, but they’ve lost too many of their star performers and look set to lose more. Quote

Its not perfect but its a step in the right direction and other clubs should take note. I absolutely despise away tickets and how they're allocated, it's a closed shop, and has been for years. ST holders should of course get priority, but clubs should extend the away ballots to every fan, as every fan should be able to experience an away day. Instead what you have is ST holders that apply, flog the ticket, pick up the points so they're first in line with the European away days, it's not right. Plus Spurs give 30% (30%!!!) of theirs to players families and corporate sponsors. Fuck off lads. I think the idea of if you're successful you can't apply for the next two is a good idea, and a ballot system is the fairest way to allocate after ST holders. One of my fondest memories as a kid is going to Coventry on a new years eve, it was cold and miserable and we battered them 4-0 and I want my youngest to experience that cold, misery and elation as well. Also went to Forest as a kid and was seething that their fans were doing airplane gestures and singing the Dambusters theme tune at Jurgen. That's my German! Quote

Possibly losing 4 first teamers to English Premier League teams, 2 of which I'd say are integral to a starting 11 and we're being linked with second division Spanish league players as replacements. By all accounts Duran is looking promising, but yeah, given that the season kicks off in just over a week, the pace of the rebuild is slightly baffling. You’re light in several key areas, not least between the sticks - you’d have to hope there are several promising young players primed to make the breakthrough that we’re just not aware of. Quote
