If you a) like going to football, b) can acquire and afford a ticket and c) live near a club other than the one you truly support there's no harm in going. The most recent season ticket group I was in at Norwich contained a Spurs and a Leeds fan. Neither of them considered themselves a Norwich fan, they just liked the routine/friendship/beer/football. I think half the people that I know that go to Spurs consider the actual football as an inconvenience in the day, which is fair enough. I mean, Coventry are slightly different for me in that from the age of 4 to 27 I went to pretty much every home game and quite a lot of away. It's been diluted by having been away from home for 15 years, but Cov are the one team I actively 'support'. And they've been out of the top division for 25 of my 39 years. Up until now, it was perfectly safe to go to a prem game and not break Rick's Rule. Quote

It is only because I fell in love with Leeds as a city when I lived there for 18 months and I went to a Leeds United game and their fans are so passionate. Man City making 500 low cost tickets available for every game to the most local areas is a great initiative. We can all say "Well they can afford it and it's the bare minimum!" but it's still a good thing to do. I know Spurs offer tickets to local schools but it's usually cup games and not great numbers. All clubs should follow City's example. Then we have multiple reports of Man United fans having their season tickets revoked or banned for very spurious reasons, and no refunds being offered as of yet, which is pretty rank. Some are saying its because they handle a few accounts on one device. Well you would if you have kids or you look after someone's concession tickets maybe? This isn't just a United issue, this will happen at all clubs as they don't really want ST holders let's be honest, or not as many as there currently is. There is a wider issue in this as I mentioned in my ticket advice post to Cod Eye, in that there must be a simpler system of being able to acquire tickets. I'm not advocating for rocking up to the turnstile on the day with 6d and a florin or whatever, but you shouldn't have to jump through so many hoops just to go to a game. It's farcical. Don't get me started on away ticket allocation, I'll burst a blood vessel. Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted July 21 Paid Members Posted July 21 What United have done this week with the account suspensions is absolutely scandalous, I'm stunned that it doesn't seem to be headline news everywhere. It feels like an enormous mis-step by them, I really hope that there is a review of how and why this has been handled so badly and that any supporters wrongly flagged up for touting are quickly rectified. It's another horrendous PR blunder for the INEOS management at a time when they really need to be getting supporters on board with them, not fucking them off. As Bacon says, it's United now, but all the big clubs are heading this way unless fan groups are able to pull together to make a strong enough stand. Quote

Briefcase Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Talking of tickets, West Ham apparently have sold 50k season tickets for the new season. I know we can and should all laugh at West Ham for lots of reasons but that's pretty good going for the Championship (I think ticket prices were reduced by 25%). Will also mean less day trippers and casual football fans too (might upset a few in here). Quote
