I honestly thought Jimmy Cricket had passed years ago. Hell of a problematic gimmick, but a funny guy nonetheless. As a kid, I saw him in Blackpool, and I still have an autographed postcard from him - first autograph I ever got.

Really sad to hear the music producer William Orbit has passed away. He seemed to be everywhere in the 90s/2000s and had a really recognisable sound. I know he's particularly famous for the work he did with Madonna but I loved the songs he did with All Saints (Pure Shores, Black Coffee era) which I think have really stood the test of time well. Many happy memories to his songs, RIP.

His Pieces In A Modern Style albums were great, and the Ferry Corsten remix of his version of Barber's Adagio For Strings was incredible. 

He and Beck wrote Feel Good Time from off of one of the Charlie's Angels soundtracks, but because Beck had Sea Change out at the time he didn't want to confuse his audience by having that out at the same time due to them being different genres. That's why Pink did it for the movie.

That’s such a shame about William Orbit. For all your Madonnas and All Saints work - very good, of course - his best production was with Blur’s 13.

They’d already taken the piss with the eponymous LP a couple of years earlier, but 13 was something else. Any album with Tender, Caramel and Trimm Trabb absolutely wouldn’t work unless the producer knew what he was doing to make it fit.

It’s the best album of the 90s (in our house, at least), and no matter how much Damon, the Tory cheese nonce and the other two contributed to the lyrics and music, it simply wouldn’t have worked without the production.

That's a real shame about William Orbit. He's probably on the Mt. Rushmore of contributing to what my head constitutes as a 90s soundscape. All glistening, spaceship textures that he effortlessly weaved into everything from big time albums to radio pop. 

@Frankie Crisp It's definitely up there on that fantastic B-side of the 90s album list with The Holy Bible, Dog Man Star etc. I like Blur but I love 13. I'm sure this became a cliche in music journalism at the time but it truly feels like waking up with a big, manky britpop hangover and having to stagger your way home at dawn to piece together the whole thing. There's a beautiful, broken peace to it (prefaced by Death of a Party on the previous LP). Will need to relisten to this.

Star of Heroes and Nashville, Hayden Panettiere has died at just 36.  I loved to hate her in Nashville when she was Connie Britton's nemesis.  RIP.

Heroes and Nashville were both shows I started but never finished, but enjoyed for a period. The latter had some decent songs in it, with my actual favourite probably being the one which was supposed to represent how Juliette had gone all pop and betrayed her roots:

Damn, that's hit hard, especially as I'd just started the Heroes rewatch. And she'd recently talked so much about her life and everything she'd been through. So many young female stars have it SO horrendous.

Yeah, her account of postpartum depression and substance abuse is heartbreaking to read, but it very much felt like she was on the other side of that; and perhaps she was, not knowing her cause of death. It makes this feel even more cruel, 36 is no age. Tragic in every way.

Absolutely tragic loss. Talented, beautiful, wealthy young woman who you'd imagine had everything to live for until you read about her struggles and personal losses.

I actually remembered her mostly from Ice Princesses. My older daughter used to have that DVD on repeat in our house! I've not thought about Heroes for years.
