Obviously lots of the red flags of a typical Joss Whedon problematic character if you watch back now, and Brendon himself had all kinds of issues that are concerning to read about, but the way he played Xander as this super nerdy guy who was somehow still so cool he got to hang out with Buffy, I wanted to be him. I remember when we had to pick a celebrity to write a profile about in Year 9 German, I did Nicholas Brendon and was basically the only male in the class who didn’t pick a Newcastle United footballer. For my memories of fandom at the height of Buffy on TV, this is a sad one for me. Quote

I was a huge Buffy fan when I was younger and a few years ago me and my eldest started making our way through it and really enjoyed it (did stagnate around series 5 and we've been stuck there for about a year) Anyway, Xander is played note perfect by Brendon, and it's a really underrated performance. He adds a a lot to the Scooby gang (probably the most after Buffy) and despite his awful dress sense and weird obsessive behaviour will always be me my boy. That scene in The Pack episode when he walks in the school halls to Far is still very, very cool. I was also very jealous that he got to see Buffy in that coat when she was in the nip underneath.
