They are missing a young babyface Canadian to be the first winner, don’t think they have one on either roster

He's not canadian but Brian Pillman Jr has links to The Hart Foundation through his dad.

Speaking of Lance Archer, is he still off recovering from the neck injury from that botched moonsault? Hopefully he's on the mend, that was nasty.

Harry Smith is bound to have something about him that he could tap into in AEW. A bit of a monster tag team with Archer sounds like a good idea for a bit, beating up jobbers on Dark and Dynamite. If it's not working, feed them to someone that's over and move on. If it works out then it's helped give Archer some direction which he has sorely missed now for a while (long before the injury).

After a month or so most of the qualifiers are known.

Men's

  1. Samoa Joe
  2. Kyle O'Reilly
  3. Adam Cole
  4. Dax Harwood
  5. Swerve Strickland/Darby Allin

Women's

  1. Toni Storm
  2. Jamie Hayter
  3. Hikaru Shida
  4. Red Velvet
  5. Ruby Soho
  6. Britt Baker DMD

The First Round is due to start on May 11th. Feels like a bit of an afterthought. If people had said Samoa Joe, Swerve, and Toni Storm were going to be in this 6 months ago it would have felt like a bigger deal than what we've seen in reality. The drip feed of qualifiers and rounds to come instead of a single night or week really seems to have negated some of the impact this could have had.

Really nit-picking, but unless:

* Some people are getting byes straight into the tournament proper like in the FA Cup (which doesn't seem to be the case.)

or

* The tournament itself is a one-night deal like the old King of the Ring PPV (which it isn't.)

then I don't see why the matches so far have been "qualifiers" rather than just being the first round.

King of the Ring 2000 was similarly bollocks. A 32-person field, the round of 32 was referred to as “qualifying matches” on TV, and the round of 16 as the “first round.”

I think they've just made it up as they went along. Something there to cover themselves considering how spread out the tournament has been.

The Wikipedia article has a bracket set in place, but I've never seen that anywhere officially. It could be said there were 8 random qualifying matches and then the bracket gets set which is the distinction between Qualifying & First Round..

You won't be happy until they rename the QF of the FA Cup to the 11th round.
