The Owen Cup.

When the announcement of the AEW/Owen Hart Foundation deal was announced we all talked excitedly about Owen figures and characters on the video game, but no one talked much about the announced Owen Cup Tournament.

What do people expect or want out of it? What should be the format? What should be the implications?

I love a tournament and would love a G1 style tournament across AEW's shows, it's also the kind of geeky stat porn idea you could imagine Tony Khan going mental for as well as the storytelling possibilities that it would open up.

I could also see how a one night elimination tournament would be apropos for someone as synonymous with King of The Ring.

Any one else given this any thought?

I don’t think that people other than the absolute hardcore would have the patience to follow a G1 style Round Robin. Obviously it would depend on how many were involved in such a thing as to how long that might last, but a single elimination tournament would be much more appealing to the masses.

Funny you should mention this though considering this afternoon TK seems to have an attack of the Dixie Carters

Might be to do with the Owen Cup, might not. Tune into Impact! to find out

Hopefully if they went Round Robin it'd go more like the G1 and not the Bound For Glory Series. Maybe do one like at Starrcade 89 where 4 guys had a round robin in a single night. It'd be a good way to introduce Kevin Steen when he turns up.

Or like they do in Viz: Michael, Doctor David, Little Mark from off of out of Take That. Which is the best Owen?

Tony Khan's announcement this week is that next week he will have an announcement, in true Dixie Carter fashion.

I'd really not want it to be G1, round robin style, unless it was restricted to four or maybe eight people. It's too difficult to follow, and I think it could lead to top stars taking too many losses in a short period of time.

@LaGoosh hit the nail on the head with his idea though.

Love this idea, loved Starrcade 89 and would love to see a 1 night round robin tourney to take place again!

The Owen Cup will be used to collect the tears that have been shed when people talk to Bret and tell him how good he was.

I know I’m a cynical twat at the best of times but this is real ambulance chasing shit.

Explain. This is something his own family are endorsing as a way of remembering his legacy. If they weren’t wanting this why would they allow it? It’s Do you get annoyed every time someone mentions Brodie Lee on Dynamite?

There is the saying that opinions are like arseholes, but on this occasion the person with the opinion is an arsehole.

It's all well and good being cynical but this is just trolling. I was gonna write more but what's the point, stay in off topic Keith.
