Darkside of the Ring season 3 discussion

Russo came off better than Bischoff, which isn't surprising these days. As much of a blithering idiot as Russo is, the way he's a bit like someone hanging outside the shop in a Kevin Smith movie and the way every single other talking head will usually give him precisely fuck all credit for anything never fails to cast him in a more sympathetic light. He's the level of writer wrestling deserved during that time period, and the mistake was always in giving him all the chaos emeralds.

Bischoff on the other hand knows better - but through a combination of poor memory and insecurity about exactly how many things he's been successful with - will usually find a way to exaggerate how dominant WCW were - which had everything to do with him - and how out of his hands its downfall was - which seemingly had nothing to do with him.

He kind of plays it like he's above the carny bullshit but he's right down there in the mud with everyone else paying off Conrad Thompson's mortgage.

Haven’t watched much of this season but just saw that next week is about Marty Jannetty. How much do you think Shawn Michaels is shitting his pants about that episode? From what Marty has let slip in the past, this could easily be his, “Plane Ride from Hell.”

Reading Vader’s book at the moment and he talks about Marty and Shawn in the AWA essentially drugging women and doing stuff like drawing on their pubic areas with markers before throwing them out of the hotel room with no underwear on for all to see.

It’s lucky Shawn is a religious man because it’s a miracle he was never ‘Me Too’ed’

It's actually, in some ways, impressive how - via his podcast and other means - ATM Eric has convinced huge numbers of people who either weren't fans at the time, or who hate Dave Meltzer & Co, that he basically had nothing to do with WCW dying. It was the network, it was the merger, it was Standards and Practices, it was Jamie Kellner and on and on and on. He essentially refuses to take any real responsibility for the company going out of business. Hey, Eric, if Nitro had been doing similar ratings to Raw in 2001, do you suppose Jamie Kellner would have found it as easy as he did to yank their TV? And what was it that caused this dramatic drop in ratings, which led WCW to lose $60m in a single year (another thing he never admits is true)? Nothing to do with Easy E. I mean, how could being a big part of driving away your audience be your fault?

It's a shame because I enjoyed the first year or so of 83 Weeks but I find it unlistenable these days.

Watched a few of the latter episodes from this series. Ones like the Bam Bam Bigelow & JYD episode there wasn't much there to make it interesting. In the JYD one, his nephew said, "JYD did drugs whoopdedoo... they all did." Which is true, and makes you think why he was a subject choice. There was a little bit of truth bending in there too. They said after his WWF run ended in 1988. He ended up in WCW because Bill Watts brought him in, in the early 90s. (Would have been 92). But he was in WCW a month after his WWF run ended. And was there in 89, 90, 91, 92 & 93.

They got the timelines wrong on a lot of things including Matt Osbourne's WWF and WCW runs.... which is bizarre since this information is on Wikipedia and not hard to find. They just skipped over stuff like it never happened.

I found this last season overall very lacklustre. I guess all the good topics had been done.

It popped up on my news feed that Darkside has been renewed for another season, and that it will be airing fairly soon. Most of last season's episodes were stinkers, but there were still a couple of good watches in amoungst the crap. What do people think are the best subjects that are yet to be covered? Heres a list of everything so far:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Side_of_the_Ring

As shown by the awful episodes they did last season (Abby, JYD, Bam Bam, Adonis), they will just do almost straight laced biographies on people who are not even contraversial, so I wonder what guys from the 80s/90s they could do an episode on this time. No one obvious that springs to mind. The news feed said that Buff Bagwell has said hes been filmed for it, but surely Buff isnt that interesting a topic for an episode.

As a subject Buff in interesting in that wrestler with an arsehole attitude fucks up lots and ends up as a repeated DUI offender and male escort is interesting for that show.

He's so obscure in wrestling that it's threadbare but the story of Jeff Gaylord is mental brilliant for something like DSOTR. Stripper to USFL player to Wrestler to Bank Robber. In that fine order.

I read on Facebook they are looking to air the new season late march which surely means they have already started working on it for it to be ready by then?

I'm also hoping we get more good topics than bad because the last season was not strong overall

The best Buff story has already been told, and told best by JR. About his mum calling Jim up to say that Marcus is poorly so can't come to work today. To be fair, as a former WCW World Tag Team Champion, I'd trust Judy's opinion on whether he was in ring shape or not.
