They missed a trick. The should’ve hit Hangman’s music, only for MJF to walk out instead 😉.

Joking aside, it was the perfect ending to another great show. AEW are the absolute best at that split second where you hold your breath and then they deliver the exact surprise you’re hoping for. No fucking about. No swerves or trolling. Here’s exactly what you want. Enjoy. Yes! Fucking get in! I’m now fully back on board with the Hangman story and cannot wait for him to raise that belt. I’ve said it before, but they were right and I was wrong. Hangman did need to lose and go away for a while. It allowed Punk and Danielson time to have their big moments and then settle in, without Page feeling like an afterthought or getting lost in the shuffle. They’ve nailed it. Page vs. Omega and Danielson & Punk vs. The Bucks at the PPV looks nailed on and I can’t wait.

That opener was fantastic fun. Adam Cole continues to be a complete revelation since jumping ship. He’s a thousand times more enjoyable. Keep your thirty false finishes and give me one spot where he teases doing a big dive, then just does the, “ADAM COLE BAY BAY!” thing instead. I’ve never seen anyone look more chuffed with themselves. Amazing.

Moxley screaming about how hard the newborn phase is was hilarious. I’m really hoping that ends up being the catalyst for a full-blown heel turn. He already feels half way there already. Having had two kids myself, I can completely buy that the night feeds cause you to lose your mind and start murdering babyfaces. Moxley vs. Hangman feels like the perfect feud to take us to the end of the year.

Whilst the Dan Lambert thing always feels a bit cheap and shit, there’s no denying the heat he got on this show. Sweet Jesus that was loud! I’m still convinced that of everyone involved Paige Vanzant could break out as a proper star if she fancied a break from losing bare knuckle fights. If Bobby Fish can get a contract then they should be throwing money at Paige to start training properly.

CM Punk giving away his trainers was brilliant. I’m convinced anyone who says they’re sick of Happy CM Punk mustn’t have been watching properly when he was the saddest, grumpiest man alive. This is a joy to see. I could watch it forever.

Anyone else happy to see Brian Cage back just so they can get some closure before sacking him off? Starks needs to beat him clean and then move on from that deadbeat as soon as possible.

But yeah. Second week in a row that the highlight of the show was Arn Anderson.  Cody’s, “are you gonna shoot me?” line really made me laugh. For a company that so cleverly makes things like the Suzuki Incident canon, even I can’t believe they’ve managed to make Cody’s frustrating, inconsistent character part of the actual show. I swear the inspiration for Arn’s new character is Twitter and message board posts where people were losing their minds about what the fuck Cody was supposed to be. Give it a few weeks and he’ll start calling Brandi an ego-maniac and a nightmare to deal with, with absolutely no evidence whatsoever. Ideally though, I want the pay off to be Arn screaming, “WHY ARE WE SEPARATE TO THE REST OF THE SHOW?! WHY AREN’T WE ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT THE ELITE?” before it fades to black.

The genius of wrestling is "what the people want" should be what the company has made the fans want.

Babyfaces do cool things and give impassioned speeches. Heels do dastardly things and say bad stuff.

For a very long time, WWE has done that thing where in a dueling promo, the babyface stands there while the other guy runs them down. Only the heels are allowed to do anything the fans see as cool. Therefore, the fans don't react the 'right' way, WWE resents this, and the people don't get what they want.

In AEW, the baby faces are cool as fuck and the heels are bastards. The fans get what they want, because they want the same guy to win as the company does.

Absolutely agree. When I think back to when the company started and Hangman got the title shot against Jericho at All Out, I remember being pretty underwhelmed. I was very on the fence about Page at that point and if you'd told me then that now I'd be absolutely freaking desperate for him to win the title I'd think you were crazy. So all credit to them for investing in him, treating him right throughout the storyline and giving people a reason to believe in him.

Actually makes quite interesting reading going back to that PPV, especially the Punk stuff! Also some rare discussion about Cody..

Get in there to fuck Hangman, you beautiful, glorious man. I actually wasn't expecting him to come out here, I knew it could happen, but thought it just as likely that there was a possibility of an Ethan Page type debut.

Thought the ladder match was really good actually, and the participants made sense when I thought about it as well. Sure, Hardy stands out as a bit strange at first, however I liked the idea that everyone in the match had either a recent personal feud with someone else or a call back to one in the past.

I have to say I don't see it with Paige Van Zant, I thought in one appearance Kayla Harrison absolutely showed Van Zant up compared to Van Zant's three appearances. Lambert is brilliant in his bits though. Hoping this trio's match leads to a 5 Vs 5 down the line with Santana and Ortiz joining the fray.

Lio Rush doesn't seem worth the effort, especially with how likely he is to disappear again in no time.

The opener was a blinder. Really exciting stuff. I wouldn't have beaten Jungle Boy though. Christian or Luchasaurus could have taken the fall.

Here's a question some may know. Is not winning a battle royal, or not winning a multi person ladder match, added to the loss records?

Hook should have his first match by beating Brian Cage in three minutes. Then stand about for another year, playing with his hair and looking pleased as punch with himself.

I think only singles, tag and trios matches are recorded. So losing a ladder match or battle royale won't be recorded against a wrestlers singles or tag match record.

The day after Double or Nothing 2019 in Vegas when they set that up, the talk (which may have been reported, but don't think it was?) was that it was originally supposed to be Moxley winning the Casino Battle Royal to end the pre-show with the buzz of Moxley showing up to get last-second buys, to lead to Moxley Vs. Jericho to crown the first champion at All Out, but when Pac couldn't make it they switched the plan.

I love that everything feels open ended and you can’t second guess where they’re going, but where does Hangman’s victory leave Bryan Danielson? They’ve got something special with him and Omega. That Rock/Stone Cold spot during the opener where the ring emptied and left them both staring at each other felt electric.

Do they do Omega vs. Danielson for the Title before the PPV? Maybe a special sixty-minute Iron Man match that spans an entire episode of Rampage? Do they do it at the PPV itself, with Hangman happy to wait until afterwards? Or do they just do Danielson vs. Omega later in the year as a non-title dream rematch?

More important than all that though; just when you think Big E holding the WWE Title is the sexiest image of all time, Hangman gives us this.

This. The feud doesn't really need the title. Feel like after losing the title you could easily segue way into Omega feeling like he needs to prove again that he's the best by facing Danielson and Punk.

I still can't believe there were folk in this thread who thought AEW shouldn't have signed Punk.

See how it goes as AEW have swerved us before, but Full Gear could be the PPV of the year.

Omega/Hangman

Bucks/Punk & Danielson

Jungle Boy/Cole

Darby/MJF

Black/Cody III

Inner Circle/American Top Team

Britt/Rosa

Lucha Bros/FTR

Cant even get Moxley, Miro, Kingston, Pac, Andrade, Cassidy, Archer, Team Taz etc on the card.

Love AEW at the minute.

I think what's more important than figuring out when and how is best to do Omega Vs Danielson again, is figuring out what date Page is going to beat Omega for the belt and what cmis next up for Hangman after that point.

The last thing a newly crowned baby-face champion needs is his first program as champ being an afterthought to what's going on underneath. That limits his opponents, and will decide some feuds in the interim.

Like Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30 being followed up with Kane, I don't want to see Hangman beating Omega and then spending two months with Matt Hardy. They need to know what potential opponents Page has that could be seem as comparable to main event above Danielson/Omega in the months to come. Otherwise Danielson Vs Omega might be best either delayed a bit until Page is more of an established champion, or else hurried up so that it's over by the time Hangman would get the belt. Hangman could be matched up with Miro, Black, MJF, Cole, Punk or Moxley I guess.

I believe the "chip" is meant to work like MITB. Hangman could get sidetracked by Adam Cole at Full Gear while Omega v. Danielson happens. The next Dynamite in Virginia Omega comes out to celebrate, only for Hangman to interrupt to call his shot: December 1st so that Omega doesn't make a year as champion.

I seriously doubt they'd do that, but...December 1st doesn't have an announced venue for it yet.

Hangman is from Virginia, the first Dynamite after Full Gear being from there makes it a no brainer that you do the match at the PPV. The reception he’ll get walking out as champ will be electric, AEW keeps things simple and this is one of those times to do so.
