This feels a bit different and more worrying than the Gunther change - This is a complete gimmick overhaul and heâs gone from being a unique individual presence to beingâŚSpike Dudley. All theyâve done is damage his equity. You could quite easily bring him into the fold as Pete Dunne, the Bruiserweight. By all means give him Butch as a new, additional nickname and change his look over time - but at least take the audience on that journey with you. Even if people havenât watched NXT or NXT UK, you build him up with video packages, all the âcoming soonâ bollocks (heâs not Veer) and so forth. Thatâs why! In the last few months alone weâve had Adam Cole, William Regal, CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, Keith Lee, Bobby Fish and Kyle OâReilly, all jumping ship, all being able to use the same name and/or music. Itâs no wonder Vince wants better control on all this stuff. It must drive him crazy seeing guys heâs poured money into transferring seamlessly to his greatest competitor of the last twenty years.
