We do know it wouldn’t have been good booking because even Batista said he had wanted to come back as a heel. The plan was for Batista and Orton. Do you honestly think that had a chance of being a solid Wrestlemania main event? If Bryan had won the belt earlier from Orton and Triple H had brought Batista in as the super heel to dethrone the crowd favourite, that would have been good long term booking. This example from 2014 is flawed. You can't just brush it aside as fans being entitled. The root of the problem there was that WWE are so fucking shit at telling the most basic of stories. They took a guy the fans loved in Daniel Bryan, screwed him out of the Title at Summerslam, then endlessly fucked him over in order to position him as the underdog against The Authority. Anyone with any understanding of how stories work knew how that should naturally end. You can't blame the fans for thinking the same. How the fuck are you supposed to engage with a storyline like that if it's not to root for Bryan to come back, overcome the odds and get his revenge in the end? Randomly bringing someone else in to be Bryan's surrogate was always going to end the same way after everything that had came before it. It's no-one's fault but theirs that they didn't see it coming. It's nothing short of remarkable and a real indictment that WWE needed to be practically forced due to injury and fan backlash to deliver the ending to that storyline that actually made sense and naturally paid off what had been built up. And it only happened after Batista’s return got leaked weeks beforehand - for the same reason any long term booking plan that gets leaked or rumoured causes tears, because then it becomes predictable and it becomes What Vince Wants. Same with Roman Reigns in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Even their own big title WrestleMania storylines this year were built on the premise of changing Vince’s booking plans. Well, in Kofi and Becky’s cases. Rollins beating Brock never pretended to be going against Vince’s wishes, and Seth is an internet heel as a result. I remember his 'hot' period where he was killing it in matches all the time and really had the crowd behind him. Whether he's ruined himself, or WWE have ruined him via association with Becky and various booking etc, I'm not quite sure. Probably a combination of the two really. They just can't maintain that momentum in people though. There are too many hours to fill and so little of interest written for anyone outside of title matches. So he'd cooled well before Mania - even before Rumble. The emasculation of him as Becky's boyfriend was the final nail in his coffin but the hole was dug months and months before.
