Paid Members Accident Prone Posted June 23 Paid Members Posted June 23 I feel like everything Christoper Nolan has had a hand in post-Inception kind of came, had their moment, and then went, with various degrees of low staying power compared to his back catalog. It's okay for films to do that (in fact, in today's "go big or go home" cinema I encourage more films to go the pre-00's route of making solid films that don't take up much brain space after the credits roll) but someone with the power of a NOLAN should be creating movies that have that lasting impact. Does anyone talk about Interstellar, Tenet, Dunkirk with the same enthusiasm as Inception, The Dark Knight or Memento? Might be too early to close the door on Oppenheimer but I haven't thought about that movie since it's release. Quote

Mr_Danger Posted June 23 Posted June 23 I dunno, Nolan turned a biopic about a scientist in to a billion dollar juggernaut. Even Spielberg films don’t occupy the same sort of space in the zeitgeist that they used to. Culturally a memorable TikTok video or meme probably occupy that brain space for most now and music and films are just part of the digestible media that comes and goes. Quote

The first film I really remember being a massive deal for a while, and then increasingly not, was American Beauty. There were a good few years, in the likes of Empire, it was turning up in Top 10s of the greatest movies ever, and rapidly plummeting down the listings each year. And this is long before people were aware of Spacey being a wrong'un. Quote

I don't really read film mags and stuff though, I am surprised to hear it is not still well regarded.
