DavidB6937 Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Do that many people think about Avatar in between films? I don't know anyone that ever rewatches it or it's their favourite film or anything (HG excluded). I never hear people desperate for another sequel to come out. It just feels like everyone suddenly remembers Avatar is a thing and goes to watch the next one, then forgets again. Quote

I'm sure The Nut Job 2 (no idea if this actually exists) did pretty well too. I've actually seen the Nut Job 2 and never seen Avatar or its sequels. Unfortunately it's easy to forget the former while being stuck with the awareness of Avatar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(franchise) Whomever wrote this blurb made sure to get the right buzzwords in. Avatar in Concert In 2025, the franchise's cultural footprint expanded through live events like Avatar: Live in Concert, which began touring Europe in April, featuring orchestral performances of the films' scores synchronized with film footage.[100][101] The tour, produced by Avex Classics International, highlighted the series' musical legacy and drew fans to venues such as the Zénith de Paris and Royal Albert Hall.[102][103] These concerts, alongside the release of the Fire and Ash trailer in August 2025, reignited debates on the franchise's enduring cultural impact.[104] Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted June 25 Author Paid Members Posted June 25 Anyway, Wildlife directed by Paul Dano and starring Carey Mulligan got a fair bit of attention on release and seemed to be a promising debut for Dano. I really liked it but had forgotten all about it until I saw the DVD in CEX earlier. Dano hasn’t directed anything since. Tarantinos fault. Quote

Nolan has many, many fanboys out there, waiting to tell you about it. Oh God, they are out there then. The last time I brought up movies at work, one of the guys next to my desk went on at me for fucking ages about how the new Star Wars films were anti-male or some shite, so I've not broached the subject since. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted July 8 Paid Members Posted July 8 I found out today that last year there was a new animated version of Animal Farm made - and directed by Andy Serkis! And apparently it was funded by that Angel Studios lot who fund all those terrible Christian films and it was absolutely awful. How did all that happen? Quote

I don't really read film mags and stuff though, I am surprised to hear it is not still well regarded. Also @Accident Prone, I have heard quite a few people chat about Interstellar very reverentially and recently I loved American Beauty. I have a feeling the only reason it went away was because Kevin Spacey "went away" after everything came out Quote

Must be bloody awful and been buried by the studio. I never even saw a trailer for it. Quote

They should have sold it to Netflix. Quote

Paid Members Jazzy G Posted July 10 Paid Members Posted July 10 I've seen some of the YouTube videos about it, and they've apparently butchered the whole thing. Seth Rogan plays Napoleon as a thinly veiled Trump analogue, and one of the neighbouring farmers is framed as some kind of Elon Musk type. At one point they'd planned on motion capturing all the performances which is why they asked Andy Serkis to direct it. Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted July 10 Paid Members Posted July 10 It popped up on my firestick today and we was going to watch it but opted for Toy Story 5. From the sounds of it, we made the right choice. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted July 13 Author Paid Members Posted July 13 I bet you all forgot they did a Space Jam sequel only 5 years ago. I know I did! Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted July 13 Paid Members Posted July 13 Yeah it was very forgettable. Just made me want to watch the first one. Quote
