All I remember of it was the cameos which felt like WB wanking themselves silly. Why was Ausitn Powers, The Mask, Superman, Godzilla and King Kong in a Space Jam film? Bizarre.

Inspired by @DavidB6937 in the Telly thread, Heroes.

The first season was absolutely massive to the point my nearest HMV was flooded with Heroes merch (I think I even had a Hiro tee myself) and it was all anybody could talk about at sixth form for about 6 weeks. It was probably the biggest victim of the entire writing strike, that second season completely tanked the show. 

There was a influx of US shows in the mid-00s that really caught on over here - Lost, Prison Break, Dexter - and none of them faded quicker than Heroes. 

 

I will say this though. If there's one thing this thread has accomplished, it's making me painfully aware of how shit my memory is.

I seem to remember the season 1 finale was hugely disliked and everyone lost interest immediately after that.

I thought Heroes was a piss poor and was baffled by it's popularity (short lived as it was). I think the "save the cheerleader save the world" thing just hooked people in.

I remember not minding the season 1 finale, and being excited to watch season 2, and then giving up about three episodes into that. I can't think of anyone I knew who stuck with it into seasons 3 ... 4? There can't have been more than 4, surely.

Yeah I was one of the few stubborn ones.

There was 4, then a miniseries 5 years later, and then supposedly another series/reboot in recent years but that seems to have died before getting anywhere.

Lost was the same. Over here it did great guns on channel 4. Even my gran loved watching it, but then Sky bought the rights to it and rather than driving subscriptions to Sky people just gave up on it, didn't they?

I don't remember the Sky move being the reason people gave up on it. More the never ending open mysteries etc.

The move to Sky was definitely a big one for a lot of people, I do remember that. So many people talked about it when it was on channel 4 but that didn’t continue past the move, even thought Sky got episodes way quicker than they arrived in the C4 days. The first batch of season 3 episodes being their most meandering and go-nowhere of the whole run didn’t help, of course.

Not a film, but The Queens Gambit. Completely forgot that show existed until earlier. That show was everywhere when it came out. I remember there even being a tie-in board game that was some how not just chess.
