A 50% pay cut is wild

Iif you’re someone who is reasonably certain that AEW wouldn’t sign you, I can see why you’d feel like you have no choice but to accept it. And with that level of cut, assuming this report is accurate, I’d have to assume a situation like that is going on.

EDIT: according to Sean Ross Sapp, several major talents have been asked to take pay cuts. I wonder if they’re trying to force some of their big earners out of the door in a way that allows them to describe it as ‘mutual’?

I think AEW and WWE cater to different "needs" for talent entirely.

Guys like Ospreay have spoken publicly about a major factor for choosing AEW over WWE being better conditions/welfare.

The conditions that AEW offered him suited his situation and if global exposure and potentially higher earnings were of less importance to him, then it's a no brainer.

WWE will almost certainly always be the bigger brand and even if the top 10 stars in the company left tomorrow and went to AEW I don't think that would change.

I think a lot of the talent whether it be for ego or just aspiration want to be in "THE" company and be a part of Wrestlemania, seeing being in WWE and part of Wrestlemania's as some sort of validation of their stature or worth.

Whereas in AEW I feel like there are people who realise that isn't actually a real thing and being happy and well looked after is considerably more important than being able to tell people you work for WWE.

I cant imagine the likes of say, Orton, Punk Or roman taking a massive pay cut, but honestly, someone like Cody might well do so, he seems the type

The way WWE under the TKO era work I could see Sheamus being asked to take a pay cut. Pushing 50 and been out injured since the end of last year. Supposedly signed a 5 year deal in 2024 when things were still riding high. A TKO exec would look at that and start talking about "Are we getting value from this deal?" and not care who he's training buddies with.

Seriously expecting the announcement from Cena Saturday to be that WWE has been bought by the Saudis and these contract restructuring have been to make it a more acceptable price for them.

Given TKO is a publicly traded company, they would need to announce that to the stock market as it will affect share prices long before having Cena announce it at a PPV, so I wouldn't imagine it's that he's there to shill.

Not true. John Cena has special authority from the government for this sort of thing.

The Saudi's have PURCHASED WWE and COMPROMISED several contracts to a permanent end.

It would only cost them a few days of exploitation money as a quick google says WWE, is worth just over $35m Dollars

That figure is definitely not right. 35 billion is probably closer at this stage.

Not a chance it's that high based on about $1.4 billion in annual revenue and limied fixed assets. Valued at just over $9 billion for the TKO takeover and there's been limited growth since.

Yeah I wasn't suggesting that was an accurate valuation based on anything, I haven't even checked, just that they are clearly worth quite a bit more than $35 million given Reigns is reportedly on $15 million a year.

Yeah, I got that, sorry pal. Was disputing @Ralphy first figure from Google.

Nick Khan has signed a new multi-year contract with WWE…which includes a 50% rise in base salary. What a slap in the face to the wrestlers asked to reduce their salaries.

Must feel real good to be a WWE Superstar™️right about now. You take a 50% pay cut and then days later the President of the company gets a new contract with a 50% pay rise. Unbelievable.

Also, it's not like Nick Khan fucking needs it with the millions upon millions he gets in stocks and bonuses.

It's not just him that's getting a lot more money:

On a more positive note, the good news is, I have received a 304% pay rise, so… every cloud.

The pizza parties at WWE catering must be top notch.
