Is he a seafaring chap?  Apple with salt is used as a seasickness remedy.

Had a breakfast cob in Dublin airport this morning. It was topped with salsa sauce and red kidney beans.

Trust me lads, it worked.

Leon sausage muffins come with salsa and it is now my pre long journey train anywhere breakfast along with a couple of bags of hash brown bites with chilli sauce.

Costs a fortune, posh blokes McDonalds breakfast, chilli sauce is for evenings, whatever but it’s changed me.

My favourite internet lesbian just made a video on the worst Tumblr recipes or weird food mixing, but one was just Guinness and Milk which her girlfriend loved.. isn't that an actual Jamaican thing though?

My sister was born when I was 11 and my Ma was absolutely knackered looking after her as she was quite old having her, so we ended up getting lots of takeaways for the first few months when she came home. For a chubby kid like I was, this was heaven. My 11-year-old mind was blown when I was perusing a pizza menu we got in the door one day after school and I noticed an all-day breakfast pizza was advertised. Fried egg, fried mushrooms, rashers, sausage, pudding & fried tomatoes. I insisted on getting one that evening for dinner, despite my Mam warning me that I'd have to finish it even if it was horrible, as she assumed it would be. Unfortunately for her, I loved it and ordered it every time we were getting pizza. When my sister was a few months older, things returned to normality and our burnt-to-a-crisp steaks, pork chops with overboiled spuds and veg and watery bisto gravy dinners returned.

One evening I was left to my own devices for an hour or two and I'd the bright idea of making my own all day breakfast pizza. I got a frozen pizza out of the fridge and lashed all the fry up stuff onto it & waited for it to cook. I couldn't figure out how to do the fried egg bit in the oven though, so decided to just make scrambled egg in a mug in the microwave (horrible I know!) and throw it on when the pizza was done in the oven. I was delighted with the disgusting, greasy results and dry egg on top and ended up topping many a frozen cheese or pepperoni pizza with the microwave egg abomination until I mentioned it to one of my friends as a teenager and she rightly shamed me into never making one again.

that reminds me of a story of an old mate of mine; he used to do weird food combinations all the time, especially if he was dared to. I remember being in the cinema with him one time, he had a massive jar of salsa, and ran out of crisps before he ran out of salsa. He rooted around in his bag for something else from his food shop to dip in it, and the only thing he had was shortbread, so shortbread dipped in hot salsa it was.

One time we were in a coffee shop we used to hang out in, and they had a little food fridge, and one of the things in there was a fruit salad pot. A label beneath them said "Try Me As A Smoothie!". Except it was getting towards the end of the day, and everything in the fridge had been moved around a lot, and the "Try Me As A Smoothie" label was no longer sat beneath the fruit salad. It was sat beneath a Breakfast Burrito.

We joked to the owner of the shop, "when did you start selling breakfast burrito smoothies?", and his eyes lit up with mischief. He said, "you can have free coffee for a month if you'll drink one".

And so it was that my friend downed a pint of a smoothie comprised of tortilla wrap, milk, cheese, sausage, scrambled egg, fried tomato, bacon and coriander.

My wifes dad is from the Phillipines and whenever he stays with us, I am baffled by his eating habits.

He consumes a lot of fruit (mainly apples) but he insists on dicing them up and dipping each individual segment into salt. If he is feeling extra fancy he will dip into salt and then fish sauce.

The dipping salt is quite common across south east Asia with fruit. In Vietnam they add pepper and lime. Fish sauce sounds like a new level of wrong. I've seen local friends and family baffled though that I prefer certain fruits without salt.

This thread reminds me of the rinsing I used to regularly get at work after they found out I was prone to sausages korma.

I really like the dry powder you can get that is basically a mix of salt, pepper and citric acid. Lovely stuff. But not for fruit!

This has reminded me how my mate, the same one who pours Guinness on to his pies, also puts fridge raiders in his Rogan Josh and chicken tikka masala.

About 10 years ago, I briefly let out the spare room in my old flat to student.

Every single day he would cook the same meal for himself which I will describe step by step below. The first time I saw this, I thought it was one of this situations where you just make something from whatever you have leftover due to being skint. But no. Every day.

1. half way fill a small wok in vegetable oil

2. Add in diced hot dogs

3. Chuck some red pepper and cucumber into the mix while the hot dogs are frying

4. Throw a couple of eggs in there

5. Empty the contents of the wok over two very thick and generously buttered slices of white bread

6. Crumble some feta over the top of it all

7. Cover the entire thing in tomato sauce (Lidls own)

I expect some of you deviants will want to try this.

The only other memories I have of this guy are similarly bizarre. I went on holiday once and came home to find that he had left a cardboard box of frozen burgers in the fridge instead of the freezer. They had turned into a very smelly beef liquid.

When he moved out, I went into the spare room and all that remained was a large mound of hair in the middle of the floor. To this day I dont know if he combusted or shaved his entire body in some kind of ritual.
