It is important to note that a lot of the Americans focusing on him were black Americans - in this current political climate, things like this are going to be a lot more fraught and a lot more raw, and their anger and upset should be acknowledged, without making Davidson the scapegoat.

I didn't want to post or discuss anything on here straight after it happened, and it seems that cooler heads are now prevailing following what was a febrile and tense atmosphere. It was definitely a massive challenge to intersectionality at the time: a lot of the black American commentators who wanted the incident to be centred around Jordan and Lindo were framing it as "people only caring about what happened to the white guy yelling the N-word", and weren't receptive to being asked to frame it as "concern for a disabled man who has been suicidal at times in his life because of his disability". There was a lot of anger that black people were being asked, yet again, to turn the other cheek and ease the discomfort of white people with regard to their own injury, which is also very valid. But I was glad to see others making an emphatic point that we have the capacity to both acknowledge the hurt of the black men who had to endure the slurs, and everything that comes with it, and honour the care of the disabled man who was one of the few people on the planet that we know did not want to say them based on what his condition actually entails.

To be honest, I really don't like this idea that there always needs to be blame apportioned. Yes, for the most part, there does, especially when it comes to structural discrimination like racism or ableism, but in this particular case, I think it's a case of BAFTA really wanting to do the right thing, trying to do the right thing, and sadly their efforts falling short of their ambition. Even the BBC, whom I will give much shorter shrift: the report is that they didn't hear the slurs and therefore didn't edit them out. I'm very much inclined to put all this on their shoulders, especially as they did edit out the pro-Palestine speech, and they were able to identify the misogynistic and homophobic slurs, but even then, it really does seem more like insufficient competence (not outright incompetence), rather than malice.

The key thing, I think, is that they should've turned Davidson's mike off the moment he didn't need to be recorded/amplified any more.

That's actually one of the key things that does stand out to me. They wanted John there. They wanted to do the right thing and give him his moment and everyone involved in the movie, and there were 'warnings', but there's definitely a lot to learn to. Not only from a clarity perspective but potential fallout as well.

It would have been the easiest thing in the world to suggest John not attend because of the risks, and even John himself stay at home and let everyone else get the glory. But obviously we know that's not the right thing to do, especially when you're trying to promote inclusivity and actively raise awareness.

I hope it brings people together in the end. I hope it allows some real honest open conversations and while the short term impact seems incredibly negative, it can be used in the future to improve the efforts of organisations and society to better cope with anything like this.

Blimey. She looks like she's just about to explode on to Albert Square to shake things up.

When do laws mean shit when it comes to Trump and mates? Yaxley-Lennon was probably given personal special treatment to come in.

I figured they were both out in the Middle East, avoiding taxes and staying safe.

A friend of mine normally gets a thousand litres at a time and it's usually around £550. Currently £1300 for a thousand litres when she checked yesterday.

One of the many things to bug me about the news this morning is that oil prices have dipped a bit from the war-induced high they've been at, simply because Trump said that the war is nearly over.

I get that any political leader would spin the war they're waging to make out that they're winning, but the market institutions? Their job is to get things right, regardless of spin or propaganda, because they're focused on making money or not losing it - why would they take the word of a man who has been proved time and again to be an inveterate liar, let alone the expected propaganda of a president at war?

I normally get 500 litres, about £350. The company cant give me a definitive quote until the day before delivery? But unofficially they expect up to £810
