deathrey Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I saw it this morning and couldn't believe it. I work in safeguarding and spent nearly 15 years in schools. How the DSL reported her to LADO I have no idea, there are literally no grounds. Why LADO took it seriously boggles my mind. There is more than just the schools attitude at play here and that's really, really worrying. Quote
Paid Members Wretch Posted March 24 Paid Members Posted March 24 In the absence of a general advice thread, I’m sticking this in here as I’m banging my head off a brick wall trying to sort it. On Feb 7th, I decided to take out a new phone contract with Three. On Feb 13th, they emailed me to say that there was a problem with delivery. No idea what the issue was. Part of this email . . . “Please get in touch within the next 7 days to arrange for a replacement to be sent to you. If we don't hear from you, we'll cancel your contract and refund any payments you've made.” I chose the latter of the two options. I figured my iPhone of five years can soldier on for a bit longer. Since then, I’ve been bombarded with texts, emails, and letters telling me I have an overdue balance and to pay up. I’ve been on the phone to them three separate times explaining what happened, and on each occasion, they said the issue would be investigated and they’d put a ten day hold on any communications to me. This didn’t happen of course. I’ve also used their live chat function, and submitted a complaint form on their website, again explaining what had happened. Hadn’t heard anything for a few days, so assumed it was all put to bed. Until this morning, when I got an email saying I owe them £800-ish for a cancellation fee. They’re also threatening debt collection if I don’t pay up. My wife is a nervous wreck thinking the bailiffs are gonna come knocking while I’m at work. What are my options here? I mean, I’ve already been in contact with them five times, but seems like they’re taking no notice of me whatsoever. Quote
Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted March 24 Posted March 24 The bailiffs wont be round for a long time yet, if at all. If you haven't already, phone up and go through to the cancellations team and ask to speak to a supervisor and dont back down until you do. Explain it to them and if no joy say you'll go to the ombudsman regarding it Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted March 24 Posted March 24 (edited) Keep that Feb 13th email as evidence and get in touch with Watchdog, they love stuff like this. In all seriousness though, if you’ve got an email saying they’ll cancel the contract if they don’t hear from you, they’ve shot themselves in the foot. You’d have a cooling-off period from the day you took the contract out to cancel anyway, but if they haven’t provided the service to you, then they’re in violation of the contract surely Edited March 24 by WyattSheepMask Quote
DiscoPistol Posted March 24 Posted March 24 I've had an unrelated but similar issue with British Gas recently. No matter what information I gave them, not how many calls I made, they seemed incapable of sorting my problem out. In the end I referred my case to the Ombudsman and I've never seen a companies attitude change so quickly. It's not a quick process but they've now admitted the error and we're talking compensation. My advice would be to raise a complaint with Three (if you haven't) and follow the Offcom proces. Good luck with it. Quote
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted March 24 Awards Moderator Posted March 24 I’ve had similar with TalkTalk recently. They kept trying to cancel our account because another flat in the building (shared postcode) wanted to leave. Five or six times we had to go through the whole dance of “are you sure you want to leave” “no we are sure we don’t, you’re the one who sent the thing” “okay we’ll cancel that, thank you for staying”, “we were never leaving, can you please this time put a note somewhere that says it’s not us” “definitely this time we will yes”. Six weeks later, all over again. Then the last time, they actually just cut us off, couldn’t get through to them by any method, took them two days to get back in touch by which time we’d got another provider. Tried to figure out whether we’d paid our last bill and could cancel the direct debit and it was straight back to “sorry to hear you’re leaving us”. ShitShit. Quote

Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted March 24 Paid Members Posted March 24 I've had Lloyds sending me letters for the past two years saying 'we are still looking into your complaint, apologies about the delay and once we come to a decision we will let you know.' I've never put a complaint in against them and have told them this about 4 or 5 times. I've just given up now. Who knows, it may lead to me getting a payout from them. Which, when they realise they've made a cock-up, they will no doubt be looking to reclaim at a much quicker rate than they paid it out. Quote
Cousin Jim Bob Posted March 24 Posted March 24 From when I moved into this house, I was getting a letter from Next every few months addressed to a previous occupant. I just thought they were junk like the never ending Hello Fresh letters. Eventually I opened one out of curiosity and it was for an unpaid order of around £150. I immediately called them and said the person on the letter doesn't live here anymore. They said "it's fine, we will update the system". 3 months later a Next bill appears again, so I call them again to sort it. This goes on for another year and a half. The unpaid order is collecting interest and up to £500+. The bills are getting threatening now, saying if it hits £1000 then bailiffs will be called. So when I call them I demanded to speak to a manager who said they would fix it. Three months later another Next bill appears. I go apocalyptic this time. Threaten them with legal action, that I would post all this on social media and go to newspapers etc. I was not going to do any of that, I just didn't want the hassle anymore. They promised to sort it and a few days later a letter came to confirm they had contacted the woman who had updated her details. I don't know if this woman was just ignoring them and hoping to do a runner, as they must have had her email at least. Or she just forgot about the order. Either way they will have got a £500 bill turn up at their address out of the blue. Quote

deathrey Posted March 26 Posted March 26 That's nothing. Diesel is 192.9 where I live. Luckily we also have an electric car so the Diesel car is not getting much use. Quote

DiscoPistol Posted March 26 Posted March 26 This has reminded that many years ago, people used to drive to a petrol station in Redditch from across the border in Alcester, just because they could save a few pence a litre. Do people still travel miles just to fill up? Quote

Do people still travel miles just to fill up? The one in the A435 but the M42 junction is always heaving and I know it made the news a few years ago for being a few pennies cheaper so I think they may well still do it. Same with Costco in Birmingham, pre Ukraine invasion it was the best place to get petrol for many miles but since then the queues are so very ridiculous that it to me doesn't seem worth it any more sadly Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted March 26 Paid Members Posted March 26 Surely if you're driving more than a few miles out of your way, that negates any savings? Quote
