I was in hospital for 11 nights with sepsis, just not sure what infection lead to it, probably chest though. I got out last Wednesday and started feeling a bit rough over the weekend so went back today but home again. The upside, as every cloud has a silver lining, is I did get custard and cake/crumble with dinner every night. Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted May 5 Paid Members Posted May 5 If it had not have been for the nearly dying part, I think my mum would have given her hospital stay 5* earlier in the year entirely due to the puddings. She seemed genuinely annoyed when I picked her up at 2PM the day she was discharged because it meant she missed chocolate pudding and custard that evening. Quote
deathrey Posted May 5 Posted May 5 @westlondonmist Sorry to hear that! Glad you are mostly on the mend. Take care of yourself, I know sepsis is no joke Quote

On Feb 7th, I decided to take out a new phone contract with Three. On Feb 13th, they emailed me to say that there was a problem with delivery. No idea what the issue was. Part of this email . . . “Please get in touch within the next 7 days to arrange for a replacement to be sent to you. If we don't hear from you, we'll cancel your contract and refund any payments you've made.” I chose the latter of the two options. I figured my iPhone of five years can soldier on for a bit longer. Since then, I’ve been bombarded with texts, emails, and letters telling me I have an overdue balance and to pay up. I’ve been on the phone to them three separate times explaining what happened, and on each occasion, they said the issue would be investigated and they’d put a ten day hold on any communications to me. This didn’t happen of course. I’ve also used their live chat function, and submitted a complaint form on their website, again explaining what had happened. Hadn’t heard anything for a few days, so assumed it was all put to bed. Until this morning, when I got an email saying I owe them £800-ish for a cancellation fee. They’re also threatening debt collection if I don’t pay up. My wife is a nervous wreck thinking the bailiffs are gonna come knocking while I’m at work. What are my options here? I mean, I’ve already been in contact with them five times, but seems like they’re taking no notice of me whatsoever. Compo of £150 coming my way within seven working days. Result! Should just about cover the money I’ve spent on Guinness in the west of Ireland over the last few days. Quote
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted May 11 Author Awards Moderator Posted May 11 (edited) Just having a pint in a boozer in New York and the four girls on the table opposite saw the young lady serving me put a slice of orange in my pint (Shocktop, nice). They asked if it was ‘a Tequila thing’. Told them not and it was just complementary. Blew their minds, for some reason. One of them went to the bar, asked for a load of slices of orange and they’ve all put them in their drinks. Not one of the drinks they’ve got should have a slice of orange in it, but they’re now pissing about taking photos/videos of each other with their drinks then frantically typing on whatever hellhole they’re sharing it with and this has been going on for at least ten minutes. They’ve not taken a sip of their drinks. It’s now just a prop and I feel complicit. And they’ve all got nails like FloJo so it sounds like eight Woodpeckers having a fit as they unload this crap on their followers. Off to Guantanamo, the lot of you. SaitoRyo Posted May 11 Posted May 11 I don't know if this is the thread for it, because I'm just having a whinge, really, but having to apply for two UK passports for my young kids who were born and live overseas but are UK citizens by birth is a fucking pisstake. It's really expensive, the passport people require a ridiculous amount of documents that can be hard/expensive to get and I wouldn't even by getting them if the UK didn't recently change the rules on dual-nationals and we didn't want to visit friends and family in the summer. Here in the Czech Republic it costs about a fiver to get a passport, is super easy to apply for and it usually arrives within a week of you ordering it. I can't believe how archaic the UK system is. They actually want me to send my kids' current Czech passports over there, otherwise a full colour printout of every page in them. It's a joke. On the subject of this passport bollocks, my mate (who lives in the Netherlands with his Dutch wife and their daughter) had to cancel their Easter trip back because of the new rules, which they only found out about due to articles about people who had been fucked over by them because they weren't properly informed, either. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted May 11 Paid Members Posted May 11 Sorry you had to deal with that shit. More of our shit, insular behaviour these days. Will push back on one bit though. We've all had new passports in the last few years, the kids having their first ever ones and the wife and I having previously had very old lapsed ones and the process was a breeze. Not a photo booth, doctor's office or post office in sight - which shows how old my previous one was! All online, counter signature by email, and they arrived in days. Quote

Yeah, I'm hoping that once they are actually processed and sent they won't take too long to arrive. It's just a faff trying to get all the documents together, especially for my youngest as it's his first UK passport. The good news is once they're here I can pay an extortionate amount for return flights to Newcastle, thanks to the ol' fuel crisis the world is currently going through (which may get cancelled depending on how much jet fuel there is)! Jesus fucking Christ... Quote
TibBo Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Went to Cardiff this weekend and thought we’d pop down to Barry Island this morning to have a play in the arcades before coming home. Arrived there around 10am to find that every possible route to the seafront completely blocked due to a 10k fun run. If you ever want to test how strong your marriage is, try aimlessly driving around that double-parked labyrinth for 40 minutes while being constantly confronted by bunting… Quote

Members SuperBacon Posted May 20 Members Posted May 20 More Tesco embarrassments. Paying for my food and chatting to the cashier and I bought the new Beef Taco Doritos, and she said she hadn't seen them before. I say that I love a crisp and I'll try anything once (once more good flirting although she was about 90) and she asks if I've tried the new Burger King Pringles, and I haven't and tell her I didn't know they had them. She says they're on the end of the aisle and I say "oh goddamn" which quite frankly is something I'm pretty sure I've never said in my life. Although it was more like an elongated "god daaaayuuuum" with some sort of accent, so yeah, another person I really don't want to talk to in Tesco again. She didn't hear or pay attention but the woman queuing behind me did and I'm sure laughed. I hate myself. Quote

Nah, that was just a random woman in Tesco down the cat food aisle. What I'm doing is slowly bullying myself into self loathing to stop being lazy and going to the near Tesco and go to the Lidl down the road. It's working. Quote
