Our Worldwide was a different show to Worldwide in the States - over there it was a full-on b-show whereas what we got was select matches from Nitro, Thunder & occasionally Saturday Night which they'd pretend were actually one "live" show despite the set changes etc. Anytime the ringside commentators appeared on camera Hudson & Zybyszko would tell us there were the "internet guys".

But yeah, it was on a fairly significant delay so I'm pretty sure it kept running on C5 for a month/6 weeks or so after WCW had actually been sold to Vince.

My lasting memory of this era was Mike Tenay as a supposedly high ranking heel, "spontaneously ordering" the run-in we were about to see from the Magnificent Seven in whatever match from Nitro he was dubbing fresh commentary over.

Sky aside, UK TV's never really "got" what it had with wrestling eh?

Nitro was chucked in such a weird time slot, sandwiched between two different channels, both of which catered for totally niche audiences, neither of which included wrestling. It was never advertised, we never got any PPVs and it was cut down to an hour for the longest time. I can't remember it falling behind but I do remember them repeating an episode because they didn't get the latest tapes in time.

I'm sure Bravo just saw ECW as cheap filler for late at night, not realising that it was supposed to be episodic. I was really excited when it first came on but they just seemed to show the same random episodes over and over again. They were mostly from 1996, including a turd of a Shane Douglas vs Louis Spicolli match, but I do remember an amazing Psychosis vs Tajiri match from 2000 as well. They obviously had access to more recent stuff but just kept going "fuck it, this one will do".

Even NJPW stuff on Eurosport was pretty wank. I remember watching a Junior Heavyweight match and one of the Commentators spent the whole time just taking the piss. I'm sure it was Liger and Ultimo Dragon as well. It wasn't like it was some shitarses.

ITV4's treatment of AEW is just them following a tradition really.

Although I've never seen the clip myself, I remember reading somewhere a few years ago that on one of the WCW Worldwide episodes on C5, Larry Zbyszko was doing the (dubbed) commentary on a match which involved a run in from himself, which he somehow had to pretend to ignore when commentating.

Eurosport briefly showed matches from TNA Impact around 2005 timeframe.  They presented it as a legitimate sport:  only matches were shown (no backstage skits etc), and Eurosport superimposed their own graphics with the wrestlers names and a few details before the bout got started.  They also had this atrocious commentator who had clearly never watched wrestling before, so was just making the names up of the moves as he went along.  I vividly remember Jeff Hardy winning a match with a Swanton bomb and him calling the move as "a spin and a drop".

ECW on Bravo got really easy to follow on Bravo by 99/2000 but they were a few weeks out from what I remember.  I think I taped near enough every airing in 2000 and don't recall anything old, just tons and tons of horrifying softcore porno before and or after most episodes. Maybe it was early on. But combining Power Slam with limited internet use to find out which Hardcore TV was that week worked out well most of the time.

I loved the New Japan (or WSW) on Eurosport days. Especially the crap made up names like it was WCW vs The World on the PS1. I remember Dave Finlay was Dave Fendi, Brad Rheingans was Brad Lengan etc. I’d never seen any Japanese wrestling before and was only familiar with the guys who’d shown up in WCW in the early 90s like Muta, Chono, Hashimoto, Sasaki etc. But you never knew who was gonna pop up on there from week to week. Seeing the likes of Vader, the Steiners, Hogan, Benoit, Savio Vega as TNT and fucking Nailz on there was mind blowing for me at the time. Plus Gordon Solie on commentary for a bit with Humperdink before someone who I’m forgetting replaced him.

Anyone remember when Eurosport briefly showed New Japan again around 2007/8ish I think it was? Not sure how far behind the coverage was but I never had a clue when it was on. Never seemed to be in the listings accurately and I only caught it by chance a few times.

Yeah, I remember NJPW in 2007/08, I think they still used the same Judo commentators. TNA, it was very odd, but here it was commentated on quite well.

ADDED: I think it was that old WWF guy, Craig DeGeorge, that replaced Solie.

Was much of this recorded by anyone and out there in circulation?
