The AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite Thread

Enjoyable show from top to bottom. For me the tag title match was MOTN with Kenny/Hangman and the TNT title matches not far behind.

As others have said the world title match didn't fulfil the hype leading into it but the build up was so good it would have been difficult to fulfil it without a title change.... Which no one in that gear was getting 😜. The part I found most interesting about the main event was Kingston repeatedly going to the outside to pick up the single strand of barbed wire only to not use it but strategically place it in the ring. Think I noticed him do this 3 times.

Matt Hardy/Sammy G was not my kind of match and I had no expectations of enjoying it however they sucked me in with crazy firework fight and Gangrel turning up however they completely lost me by the end when I just felt uneasy watching them parody real injuries and dump him in a bin. Hopefully there will be no more of these kind of matches in AEW.

Everything else was enjoyable enough, watched the PPV live and the time just flew by which is high praise from me for a 4 hour PPV these days

Very good PPV, well worth the time and money. Omega vs Hangman, Bucks vs FTR were brilliant, really enjoyed both matches, and the fallout for both should be very interesting as well, which is all you can ask for when it comes to a Wrestling show.

Mox and Kingston was OK for what it was, I enjoyed it, they meshed well together, with the fact that they both love laying it in thick with strikes, so it made sense to have that style of match.

've said before, that AEW do a brilliant job of leaving the outcome of matches open, and even when the winners are more obvious, like Full Gear, it still works.

Great work again.

Omega/Page was a barrel of fun. Don Callis doing commentary was a very pleasant surprise. I'm here for a AEW/Impact working relationship.

John Silver is awesome. Another success story from Dark Order.

Had Cody/Orange not gone the time limit, that would have been perfect for the Darby/Cody match. It just felt like it was a match too soon in their rivalry for Darby to win.

Right woman won the women's title match. Now can Britt win the title and be the female ace of AEW?

Bucks/FTR was a thing of beauty. From Matt's selling to Dax's hand injury and the selling of it to the NXT callbacks from FTR to the finish. If you didn't like this, then I can't help you.

Elite Deletion was everything you expected it to be. If you like this stuff you'd love it, if you hate it you'd hate it. I like this stuff.

MJF/Jericho was what you expected also. I popped for MJF yelling "oh shit" during the backdrop. The next few months before MJF and the Circle turn on Jericho and the actual turn while be fun for sure.

Kingston/Moxley was good for what the stipulation was. Can only remember two great I Quit matches (Magnum/Tully and Flair/Funk) before it became an excuse for John Cena to reanact torture porn movies. To be a fly in the Moxley household when Mox gets back home from Jacksonville though

It was great in all and it achieved its goal. Paid off stories and has got me for the future with the Inner Circle and Omega/Mox with curiosity to how Kingston copes with losing and the Elite storyline which looks far from over.

I had to watch it in a few chunks today as it was long. I've definitely been preferring the shorter PPVs this year but to be honest there wasn't much I wanted to skip on this one so can't argue too much with the run time.

Omega/Page - exactly what I thought it'd be. A really solid match that felt like both guys were holding back a bit for a future contest. Its a difficult one as I've enjoyed their story together but I really would've loved a better match. I'm probably just being greedy there and I know ill love their next encounter even more I'm sure. I just feel ready for it now. Omega seemed to have more support from the crowd too which hurt it a little for me. I want full heel Omega vs a Page that has a massive crowd desperate for his revenge, and I'm sure we'll get it one day.

Silver vs Cassidy - how fun was that? Perfect follow up to the opener and great use of both guys.

Cody vs Darby - I always worry about Cody matches because they never quite live up to the way he sells them. This was different because it didn't have any great depth or backstory so it was all left to them to deliver in the ring and I really enjoyed it. You could tell Cody wanted to put him over strong and this is a big step in Darby's career. We've all said he's one to watch for the future so a good run with the TNT title will help move him up the ranks.

Shida vs Rose - about the only thing I wanted to skip but I thought I'd give them a chance. It was fine but again nothing spectacular and really missing any reason for me to care. Broken record but they need to do better and Tony knows it.

FTR vs Bucks - I'm torn between loving all the tag finisher callbacks and just hating the spammy finisher nonsense. I probably enjoyed it really. I can't say this was ever really a dream match I was desperate for but they did a good job. I enjoyed the injury story and the fact that FTR deviated from the plan and lost because of it. Only thing I struggled with was whether the Bucks were face or not because they've been quite heelish especially with the Elite stuff. I would've liked a stronger face/heel divide there just to really want the Bucks to win.

Elite Deletion - felt like I've seen more than enough of that kinda stuff now but a few good laughs.

Jericho vs MJF - this was never going to be about the match but rather what happens going forward. Jericho will be face soon enough.

Mox vs Kingston - exactly the match we knew they'd put on. My heart broke for Kingston at the end but so glad he got the opportunity in the spotlight.

Not quite the smash hit PPV it looked on paper but some cracking stuff on it regardless.

The Buy-In promos and hype packages are quality stuff. Serena Deeb looks class. Mind boggling WWE let her go.

Perfect opener in Page/Omega. Loved how explosive it was, first five minutes were fire. It was relatively short and left them open to do more higher up the card. Don Callis on commentary might have been a mistake, he showed the rest of them up and left a hole when he was gone.

Cody/Allin had tremendous stuff in it. Cody's fascinating to me. There are times where I think he's the best wrestler on the planet, like the armbars and the sweet transitions and the classic storytelling. Then he'll do something completely baffling, like a mid-match Crossroads FROM THE TOP ROPE, and I'll think he's a fluke with bad instincts, all over again. Shouldn't have kicked out of the Coffin Drop either. A Darby championship run seems fresh with new possibilities and I'm excited for it.

OC/Silver was a fun mid-card sprint. Bucks vs FTR totally delivered. It had the feeling of an epic encounter that never outstayed its welcome. There's hardly any COVID-era matches I'll ever go back and re-watch but this is definitely one of them.

Things started to nosedive with the Hardy match. I swear everything he touches turns to shit. Such a weird match too, the execution of it was all over the place in both production and tone. I can't believe they redid the spear spot that went so badly before. And it seemingly fucked someone up once again! I don't know if Sammy's head getting busted was a work or not -the camera completely missed it - but it was stupid either way. Not only did the violence feel way out of place in a comedy match, but it was so brutal it left Moxley and Kingston in a difficult position to follow in the main event. And they never did. Go home Matt.

MJF/Jericho might have worked in front a proper crowd but I was bored by it and skipped through it. Rose/Shida is an instant skip.

The introductions for Moxley vs Kingston had me on the edge of my seat. There were little things they did in that match that were brilliant and felt like a genuine clash of two mental hard bastards. Then the air started leaving the room with the thumbtacks. It's what they do, and it was fine for what it was, but these two are capable of so much more. And the finish was flat as fuck. You'd hope they see what they have in Kingston and keep some momentum going with a natural babyface transition. He already has Pac and Archer lined up. It was alright but a bit of a whimper.

These never ending sagas of Page, Omega, Cody and The Young Bucks are a bit of a black cloud over all this. They've been so ambiguous for so long, I really struggle to care about any of their characters. And Cody's entourage are a right bunch of wankers!

I enjoy AEW but sometimes I think they hype stuff too much that it's hard to live up to or they do it too often.

Mox vs Kingston (who managed to find worse ring gear) had super intense built up so it's hard to live up to it without killing themselves.

Same issue with Cody, all his matches since AEW started have had a deep intense back story (even the weekly jobber stuff) which isn't always needed cos sometimes a match is just a match.

KO vs Page was great as was FTR vs Bucks but The Elite need to pick a side and go for it, subtle is one thing but you gotta pull the trigger at some point which hopefully will be when Omega wins the world title and The Elite rules the world again.

Says all you need to know about that company that they thought the best use of her would be training in the Performance Center and not as an actual wrestler.

To be fair that was a really good use of her. They have plenty of decent women on the roster. She would've been lost in the shuffle. While over in AEW she can shine because they've done a shit job with that division.

If the hype gets you tuning in or buying the PPV then it's exactly the right amount, surely? Hype is how wrestling companies make money.

Yeah of course but at times it doesn't live up to the hype, also if everything is super hyped and special then nothing stands out.

WWE normally kick it up a notch in Mania season but it wouldn't have the same impact if every event is that way.
