Watching Dark, and while I might be in a minority, I've been really enjoying the Brandon Cutler/Librarian feud. I'm hoping it ends in a 'Someone Has To Win' match, where they both get counted out, so it restarts as a no-count-outs, and they both get DQ'd, and... so on and so forth.

One thing that's becoming a bit unavoidable - I get that they've been using local trainees a lot, but it's feeling like we're seeing a whole heap of black wrestlers losing to white wrestlers. It's becoming an awkward visual. They should work on that.

That Lee Johnson fella is crying out for a win, the poor sod has taken a beating in every show for the past 3 months it seems.

I agree with you on Cutler/Avalon. Their stuff on BTE has been innocent fun, too.

I disagree, however, with the black wrestlers thing. If the local trainees are black, and they're being paid to wrestle, I think that's cool. I don't think AEW necessarily need to put black trainees over white wrestlers just because of the BLM stuff that's going on right now. Does it make it better if a black trainee loses to a black wrestler? Or would you prefer the signed, contracted white wrestlers put the unsigned, uncontracted black wrestlers over?

There are some incredibly talented black wrestlers being featured on Dynamite and Dark recently, and maybe some of them will get signed, but as human, independent wrestlers, regardless of race, they're in a much better position than a lot of others, being paid to wrestle at a time where a lot of independent wrestlers are out of work.

There are black wrestlers on their roster that you barely see - I'm pretty sure Sonny Kiss still hasn't wrestled on Dynamite outside of Battle Royals. Big Swole only seems to show up once in a blue moon.

Big Swole was gaining momentum before the pandemic, and with her Crohn's, you'd assume she wanted to stay safe.

Sonny Kiss is talented, and I'm a big fan, but very much in the same way I'm a big fan of Avalon. He's not going to win much, but he's entertaining and fun to watch.

I'm not saying it because of BLM. I'm saying it because it's been happening multiple times on each episode and it's becoming awkward. They're handling the jobber shows generally pretty well in terms of offence and so on. I'm not saying the black trainees shouldn't lose, and certainly not the majority of the time. But I'd like to see, for example, Shawn Dean, Lee Johnson or Pineapple Pete as even lower-card wrestlers, capable of picking up a win here or there.

Recently, we've been in the weird position of seeing far more black wrestlers than we usually do, but they're all losing. Even Sonny Kiss isn't winning on a jobber show.

You're absolutely right, they should, because they're all very good. Personally, I'd go for a proper Pineapple Pete run. He's fantastic.

But they're not signed. So they're not going to be presented in a way that puts them over.

There was one guy on Twitter, I don't recall his name, but appeared to make claim that AEW and WWE hadn't signed him because he's black. Let's be honest, if AEW suddenly strapped a rocket to Sonny Kiss and Big Swole, people would shit on them for pandering.

Everyone forgotten Scorpio Sky, who's tipped for a crack at the big one at some point in the near future?

No - I talked about this on twitter too, and mentioned that I thought part of the reason they're not handling it well is that they have Scorpio Sky, Swole and Sonny Kiss in mind as future stars (I thought I'd said the same here, my bad). Same with Private Party. So I do think they have long-term plans. Again, I don't think much of this is coming out of a bad place, but I do think it's become a bit awkward.

None of it comes from a bad place, but the circumstantial reality is that almost all of the black performers on the show happen to be fairly inexperienced with the exception of Scorpio Sky, who to be completely blunt was given a big initial push, bigger than he should have got as the first guy to pin Jericho and first tag champs which he shouldn't have been, and it didn't take because he has a lack of charisma. I understand the point, but its looking for something that isn't there, so it shouldn't be held against them (not saying you are, I know you're just making the observation).

I think Scorpio has charisma. I think he's a slow-burn project though - they gave him that bit of a push so they can come back to it down the line. It's just establishing that he's got some chops. The interviews recently feel like an attempt to get there. I think they see him as a headliner in two/three years.

Scorpio Sky felt like collateral damage when they drastically shifted direction at the start of the year. Before that, I thought he was doing really well. The performance where he lost his shoes was electric and that promo he cut about his ex girlfriend with Jericho was really fun. Good pro-wrestling comedy. A true rarity.

Once they had those crisis meetings over the Christmas break though, with more focus being placed on turning The Elite into the level of stars they should be, guys like Scorpio sadly fell by the wayside. They vignette they did on him leading into the Casino Ladder Match definitely suggests there’s still something there though. Hopefully he gets back on track.

I've been impressed with Brian Cage so far, not sure he'd get away with his moves in WWE at the moment though. He was throwing that jobber around like an empty packet of crisps. Looks a good fit in AEW.

Edit: Just realised this was last weeks Dynamite I was watching. They are building the Moxley feud well though.
