I'm unsure about house shows (though I do think they have still happened in fairly recent history) but WrestleMania's 4, 5 and 9 were all partially bought shows. The casino paid a large amount of money in order to purchase a certain percentage of the tickets, which made WrestleMania 4 more profitable at the gate with roughly 17,000 attendees than the 78,000+ at WrestleMania 3.

I'd imagine it's happened a fair bit over the years though in some places that WWE don't run events that often.

Yes you're absolutely right, I remember Bruce Prichard talking about it on their WrestleMania 9 podcast. The casino paid for the event and threw the tickets in with the high rollers staying at their hotels. Which isn't too dissimilar how boxing events work in Vegas, right?

I'm only after hearing on WOR that normal tradition in Saudi Arabia states that there would need to be an intermission for an hour during the show in order to facilitate a prayer hour. How in the fuck are they going to get around a 1 hour intermission for those watching over the network? A 1 hour pre-show, 5 hour main show with an hour tacked on for prayers? I'll finish watching the show next Wednesday at 8 o'clock.

That's when they should show highlights from the women's matches from TV this week!

That would be hilarious if they did that! Couldn't you just imagine the Saudi Royalty sitting in the front row, getting a phone call and being told what was streaming live during the break. He'd spontaneously combust.

I believe you're right about the boxing events PunkStep. I'm sure it happens with them in quite a few cases if an event takes place inside an arena that belongs to a casino. When UFC ran Abu Dhabi a few years ago for one of their shows I think that may have been a similar case to this Royal Rumble event. A group in Abu Dhabi purchased a silent partner stake in the UFC. Part of what came with it was a show over there, on their turf

Jerry Lawler said he had received an email from WWE, as had all the wrestlers who were going, regarding what they can/can't do when in Saudi Arabia.
Sadly it was edited out of the final broadcast as the email was a 'for your eyes only' kind of email.

Would have been interested in knowing what was on the list to be honest.

Is 1 hour is enough intermission for those Saudi women to scrub the stage clean?

It won't be women. It'll be guys/slave labour from Yemen or the Philippines.

I worked for 3 years on the Saudi/Yemen desk at the FCO so personally I am fascinated by this event and it's really interesting to see wrestling fans take on it.

One hour intermission mid 'Rumble. Plate of sandwiches and a jug of cool lemonade brought out for the lads.

This event is just balls to the wall mental. I can't wait.

Non-canon? It's been heavily advertised and a lot of Raw/Smackdown this week was build for this show. I'd say some of those UK PPVs (No Mercy 1999, for example) that had no effect on storylines and hardly got mentioned on normal programming were much more non-canon. Unless I've completely misinterpreted your meaning.
