Is The Last Stand the first example of shoehorning an internet meme into a film? Can still get a cringe shiver from just thinking about that Juggernaut scene. God bless you all for rewatching and reappraising it, I'll never make myself sit through it again, I thought it was absolutely rancid.

This is tenuous at best, and I had to look it up. And it turns out I was remembering it wrong. But it's sort of close, so I'm going for it anyway. You may or may not remember the Early Internet viral video series of GI Joe PSAs, where the creator re-dubbed / re-edited the clips for comedy effect. One of the early ones was a kid setting fire to the stove while cooking, and the the character Blowtorch runs in and shouts PORKCHOP SANDWICHES! (It was 2003, man. You had to be there). Anyway, years later the GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie came out, and for the video game tie in, the developer had all the voice cast record the line "PORKCHOP SANDWICHES!", to be included as some kind of exclamation used by characters. But due to Hasbro being dicks about the whole thing, the legal team shot it down and it wasn't included.

is called Paul Noble, and he was one of the children from the Liverpool Gang on the 70s-80s children's TV show Why Don't You?

I don't remember the episode where they said Why Don't You take a photo of a disgraced royal that will become part of history.

The other day I learned that when you buy cotton socks from Nike and Adidas, you’re actually buying Gildan. It makes perfect sense to me - if Gildan branded socks went into shops at Gildan price, nobody would buy them. Instead they sell them to big names who put a huge mark up on, and people buy them. Ah, the power of brands.

I got some of those Gildan socks ages ago and they were really good,

TIL it's 32 years since Bill Hicks died, which was also his age when he carked it. I'll have to rewatch 'Sane Man' again. I like that show because the UK hadn't discovered him yet and he's playing some shit-hole in Texas. It feels quite pure and almost like he pulls off a blinder to either prove a point or spite himself. When he was having a good day, he was pretty brilliant, but there are bits and pieces of his oeuvre that haven't aged that great. There are some fun books about him, I think I find the man himself more interesting than his content.

I do feel if he lived though he might have become really fucking unbearable.

TIL(Well. yesterday) where the term "Hangover" comes from...

Went to a show called "An Evening with Jack The Ripper" where a guy who claims to be a historian on the crimes took us though them all, and offered up his 2 suspects.

Anyway, at the beginning he was talking us through London of that period and explained that due to the level of poverty in the East End, many people just got enough money each day to stay at a "Doss House". In these places, they could get a bed for 4d a night, a double bed for 10d a night, or if they were especially skint after a long day and night on the ale(many folk drank ale all day everyday as it was safer than the water) they could get a "2d Lay Against" where a line of drunk people would be propped up against a wall and tied together with a rope so they didnt fall. This was then changed to a "2D Hangover", and most would be leaning forward by morning and hanging over the rope.

So, according this random bloke giving a talk on Jack the Ripper, thats where we get the term hangover from!

It gott the biggest "ooooohhhh" reaction from the crowd of the night too!
