Paid Members gmoney Posted November 14, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 14, 2025 Chubby Checker is a play on Fats Domino. It seems so obvious. Quote
Just Some Guy Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 That Big Suze from Peep Show is a member of The Royal Family. The real one, not the BBC one. Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted November 21, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 21, 2025 (edited) The original sequel to Ring was called Spiral, released at the same time and shared cast members but was stylistically quite different. It apparently bombed so it was subsequently ignored when they made Ring 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_(1998_film) Edited November 21, 2025 by gmoney Quote
lanky316 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 The series as a whole feels like the first book (and by association film) were kind of a happy accident. While there's still some suspense and mystery there it kind of becomes more techno-thriller by the third and you kind of feel like that was ultimately the story that wanted to be told. Of course the film would leave it's mark and Sadako would appropriately enough take on a life of her own and overshadow things somewhat. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted November 21, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 21, 2025 Yeh, I was always told by friends not to bother with Spiral, as it was just not good. Wish I'd listened. Ring 0: Birthday I enjoyed, but for some reason it felt like a completely different movie to the original film. It unnecessarily de-mystified Sadako, which is something I've come to dislike about horror antagonists - just leave them the fuck alone, let them horror. Quote
davertfnewman Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 TIL Rustie Lee was a UKIP candidate two decades ago. Do you think it was her who put Mike Read up to that bloody song? Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted December 29, 2025 Paid Members Posted December 29, 2025 (edited) My mum's currently laid up ill in bed, and watching one of her comfort-viewing favourites, Sense & Sensitivity. We wondered who the actress was who played the youngest Dashwood sister, Margaret, and if she went on to be famous. It's only the gorgeous leftie academic (who appeared in the old Hot People thread), Dr. Myriam François, who tears through right-wingers like [insert football pun here]. An unexpected career change, but a superb one nonetheless. Edited December 29, 2025 by Carbomb Frank Rijkaard Quote
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted January 6 Paid Members Posted January 6 TIL there was an offset sect of the Quakers called the Shakers, or the Shaking Quakers, who were so-called because of their ecstatic jerking movements during prayer. I am mainly posting this because I am absolutely gutted Shakin' Stevens didn't name his band this. Shakin' Stevens and the Shakin' Quakers would have broken America. Quote

The sect doesn't exist any more for the simple reason they mandated no sex, not even for procreation. Quote
Paid Members Chris B Posted January 8 Paid Members Posted January 8 Dana Ashbrook from Twin Peaks and Daphne Ashbrook from the 1996 Dr Who TV Movie are siblings. For some reason, that blew my mind. Quote
Paid Members johnnyboy Posted January 9 Paid Members Posted January 9 I never knew until today that two of my nerdiest fandoms (Amigas and the Wayne's Worlds) were linked this entire time. 30+ years just hiding in plain sight... Garth from Wayne's World is wearing a Video Toaster shirt. The Video Toaster let you do cool video effects stuff on your Amiga, like make Babylon 5. If either a teenage JB or Mr and Mrs JB Sr had won the lottery then a Video Toaster (and a beastly Amiga 4000 to run it) would have been at the top of my wishlist. Now, I'd always spotted Garth wearing the shirt and would pop for it as I fondly remembered my Amigas. I'd always assumed that this was to signpost just how much of a nerd Garth was, kind of like how a nerd character would be in a Linux shirt in a show now. Dana Carvey based the character of Garth on his nerdy older brother, Brad... Spoiler Brad Carvey was involved in creating the Video Toaster. I am so excited with this new (to me) information that I might not even sleep tonight. Please enjoy this filthy promo reel extolling the pleasures of the Video Toaster. Quote
davertfnewman Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Interesting look Wil Wheaton is going for in the video - pierced ears, leather jacket, socks and jeans up high. Should've popped a bandana on top of that awful side parting. Quote

Have you seen him in Toy Soldiers? Joey Trotta was more him than Wesley Crusher. He’s still hot. Quote
