A holler.

I used to listen to hundreds of stand up bootleg when I was a teenager and in my early twenties, and I was always struck by the audience chatting away through the show in almost all American bootlegs. I know it's more of a dinner and a night out experience over there, particularly outside of New York and LA, but it's still staggeringly annoying. Most of the time the venue drops the bill for the food and drinks while the comic is still on stage.

Saw Mark Thomas again in Leeds a couple of nights ago, he did a lot of the same material as he did in Hebden Bridge in June but I knew he'd have to change enough of it up to be worth seeing again, since a lot of it was pre-election material. Picked up a couple of these rather nice stickers.



For those unaware of the back-story, it's relating to act #53 (and also #54, which was the creation of the stickers) of Mark's "100 Acts of Minor Dissent" book, where a competition was held to invent a meaning for the word "farage". The winning entry was;

farage (noun)
The liquid found at the bottom of a waste bin or container.

Seeing Dylan Moran tomorrow evening. He's apparently gone off the rails a bit since he split from his wife and went back on the drink. Hopefully he's in good form these days as I was a huge fan of Black Books, his bits in Shaun of the Dead and his early 00's shows. Frankie Monroe and Marie Faustin are also on the bill and I kmow nothing of either, so going in wth an open mind for both!

Frankie Monroe is a mate of mine called Joe. I really can't explain his act other than it's like an old school working men's club character that's been haunted by the League of Gentlemen, he's probably going to have a very good Edinburgh Fringe coming up. I think he's brilliant.

Ah cool. Frankie/your pal Joe was actually my favourite performer of the night. He was brilliant and definitely got League of Gentleman vibes off his act, which is obviously a good thing!

Dylan Moran wasn't a train wreck, but he did attempt to faff around on a keyboard for his set, which didn't really work. Still good craic finally seeing him live though. The American lady was pretty meh.

He's just started an Edinburgh Fringe run so I hope he has a good time, glad you enjoyed it. I'm back in the UK next week and headlining a gig in Manchester on Wednesday which will be my last for a little while as I focus on trying to get into France on the permanent/much as possible.

There are worse comparisons than that BacktoMack. He was great on Taskmaster, the sabotage task is one of my favourites.

I mentioned briefly that a good mate of mine Marie Goulbourne passed away very suddenly last month. 5 days before she passed, she had won the heat to get into the BBC New Comedian of the Year Final and it her heat airs tonight. It's a cruel twist of fate and we're all on the north west comedy scene especially still gutted at her passing. It's a bit of a comfort that her last gig was her first TV spot and she absolutely smashed it.

Saw Sarah Keyworth at the Playhouse last night.

Genuinely one of the best standup shows I’ve ever seen.

For the comedy side of things, this was top drawer. Genuine tears of laughter. But they also took us through a journey of their life and recent challenges, in such a beautiful way that made this a gorgeous, emotional couple of hours.

Enjoyed this video on the whole incident around Seinfeld railing against wokeness ruining comedy (though he never said wokeness as he's too old and out of touch to be familiar with that term, so he called it PC gone mad). 

I know it's very old news at this point, but I didn't follow it closely at the time so I enjoyed this analysis of it.
