I was pleasantly surprised by Hawkeye, I really enjoyed it, but thought She Hulk was mostly drek.

Hawkeye was much better than I expected it to be. It wasn’t tied down by all the boring usual Marvel bollocks and it had Hailee Steinfeld and Lalo Salamanca doing good stuff. I’d have quite liked a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man film set in this version of the Marvel world, just taking down petty crims and having a crack at Kingpin. I bet Tom Holland and Hailee Steinfeld would have good chemistry too.

She-Hulk just missed the mark for me. Good enough cast and villain of the week format but the humour was way off for me and it seemed too focused on creating meme’s. It wasn’t anywhere near sharp enough to be breaking the fourth wall in such a mad fashion either.

The weirdest thing, in the long-term, that Disney has managed to achieve with all their series is to make Marvel and Star Wars fundamentally missable. I know very few people who have watched more than a small amount of them. And I think that has a long-term effect on their movie projects.

Everything has a cycle, of course. But I don't see or hear much enthusiasm about them. It honestly feels like it could take a while until there's a wider-spread enthusiasm again.

Agreed - a new Marvel thing doesn’t feel like an event in the way it used to. There’s just so much of it, and none of it feels like it needs to be seen straight away.

I still get that feeling for Star Wars but a lot of people I know don’t.

I watched absolutely everything the MCU put out for years (even the likes of mildly-connected things like Cloak and Dagger, The Runaways and Helstrom). And I think it speaks volumes that I still haven't bothered catching up with Echo, Agatha All Along and What If. It's not just the volume of these things but since the TV shows became exclusive to Disney+ and have tried to integrate with the movies more, for the most part they've all had a homogenous bland sanitised vibe to them.

Agents Of Shield is still the best TV show they've done, for me.

Black Widow was the one that broke me. Was painfully aware after that one that I’d only sat through it because it’s the latest offering of Disney Marvel slop and I am a ravenous little piggy. I too had been a completionist/day one viewer until then.
 

Been much more selective about which ones I bother with since then because I put them in competition with the many many vastly superior options out there instead of giving them their own special viewing priority spot. Falcon and Winter almost felt like they were doing it as a rib. “OK what can we get them to watch this time? How about Bucky and Falcon repairing an old boat LMAO.”

I didn't mind Black Widow, although that was probably down to Florence Pugh more than anything.

I think Love and Thunder, Quantumania, Secret Invasion and Loki season 2 all coming within two years and all being shit/underwhelming was the nail in the coffin for me.

Saying that, I'm sure I will catch up with everything at some point. It's just no longer a priority. The days of torrenting Agent Carter the day after it's US air date or bingeing Luke Cage over a few days are way behind me.

Black Widow managed to upset me because of the rather comical dichotomy of there being zero stakes for Natasha because we already know she isn't going to die, vs the number of fairly ridiculous things happening that 100% should have killed someone but didn't.

I'm no Ray Winstone hater, but his performance in Black Widow was enough to consign it to the dreck bin.

I know we're all Marveled out mostly but I'm really hoping this is good. F4 and XMen were always some of my favourites as a kid so it's an exciting and intriguing time for me.

I’m sold. The retro vibe, Thing looks perfect (the voice is going to take some getting used to), a non-cloud Galactus. As the kids say, it’s peak. Or fire. Or “we’re so back.” Whatever the hell any of that means.

He looks a bit like Zippy from Rainbow in that footage.
